Mines pretty flush all the way, close your tonneau before tailgate also.

Sounds like you guys got the wrong bed rails for tonneau cover, I can mine were modified to work by truxedo. They look the same as the 2nd generation Tacomas except modified to work with 3rd generations

@jake72 and everyone else. I had some time today because I took a day off to look into the issue. It appears that it's a quality control issue on Truxedos end so I'll be talking about it with them. When my cover came in this week one of the cover releases on the header was a bit cracked and they were great about sending a new one, I mentioned the issue to her and she suggested tightening from the tailgate to the cab.

I took off the rail today and noticed that there is a metal price cut out to work for the 3rd Gens but it's not cut correctly and about 1/8-1/4" too high. I'll see if I can modify it and cut that down, if not I'll see what they can do. See the pictures below:

The metal bar is cut to allow of the flare into the bed. You can see the vertical cut went lower but the horizontal cut didn't take off as much metal as it should.

Yeah mine was notched out also, but they must have got mine right. Sits down tight with bed caps.

your next to last pic don't look right, that seal part should go down between the rail cap.

Yes Adrian! This is exactly what I noticed. Who did you talk with at Truxedo? I'll reference their name if I need to call them.

I too was considering grinding/cutting/trimming off a bit of that material to get a better fit, just hadn't had time yet. Considering either an impact grinder or a hacksaw, not sure what would work best.

I couldn't quite get a frame of reference for the third picture you posted, is that the end of the rail looking up from the bottom???

I can't fit my bikes in the bed with the tri-fold. The roll-up style allows me to make use of the entire bed and easy roll and unroll it.

Check out post #136.. he used a grinder on his rails. @themajewski you might want to check this out also.

Also the guy has the tailgate seal tucked in against the tailgate. It actually goes ontop of the tailgate. (Latch the cover down after you close the tailgate) TruXedo told me it is a personal preference which way to have the seal.. on top or tucked in. Tucked in to me seems like more water would get in the bed. Especially if you have tailgate seals on your truck.

I too thought that I was getting the OEM cover when I had the dealer include it in the deal. They put a Rugged Cover II on. Looks great, has two sets of LED lights on the underside. I've driven it in the rain, does get a small drip or two on the sides, but overall will be fine for traveling with luggage and stuff in the bed. Will probably get a plastic tarp to cover luggage with clothes when on a road trip.

Just an FYI for everyone out there, my sales rep told me the factory covers are made by Action covers.
Never actually heard of them so not sure how true that is.
But ya supposed made by them and then just slightly modified for toyota (so that it has a handle to open and not a cable) and then rebranded toyota.

Just ordered a Rugged Cover II myself. Had a Rugged Soft Tri-Fold on the old truck and it was excellent. Had to stick with brand loyalty.

Rhonda, I emailed her today but have not received a response. I'll let you know once I get a response and hopefully a resolution. I don't know what'd be best yet, I'll worry about that next week and see what happens. I think hacksaw would be tough, not much room to actually saw.

Correct, the rail is off the truck on the underside near the tailgate.

I wrote to Rhonda too so she knows there are multiple owners with this issue. I asked her to keep me informed of any resolution the techs. come up with.

IMG_1216.jpg Mine sits pretty level. Noticed when installing that the middle and end cross tube didn't sit down fully on the passenger side because I had the cover rails too close together. Adjusted them so all fits down nicely.

I have the solid fold 2. Garbage. It bubbles in the heat. Came with a broken snap clip. Told the customer service guy I need a new male end with strap, got the female part instead. It moves around when your going down a dirt trail with bumps, no matter how hard you tighten it down. Leaks....I will soon toss it and get my a softtopper for my over landing build.
