No EZ Down Tailgate mod for 2013 Tacoma???

Looking for a way to modify my tailgate so it goes down slowly and gently with a piston. But apparently the Stabilus EZ Down does not work with a 2013 Tacoma.

Has anyone found a way to so this with later model 2nd gens?

Tried it. It doesn't work. There's a bolt on the tailgate that has to come out, but on the 2013, and perhaps others, the bolt is permanently installed. It cannot be removed. So this product won't work. Looking for a different solution.

 

Are you talking about the spot weld? I'd just use a grinding wheel to cut through that.

Not sure what the spot weld is, but I don't have a grinding wheel anyway.

 

Redline Tuning no longer lists one that works on the 2013. They now say 2005-2011.

 

Well I guess you're SOL... I did my best. Haha. I hope you find your solution, cause I'll likely follow suit.

 

Bought this moths ago as well, didn't work. Bolt is permanently installed. Strip don't trying to get it off, but it didn't budge at all.

 

I have a 13 tacoma sport and this is what I used on mine, it fit and works and there was no bolt welded in place.....

I'm starting to notice a trend here. Which truck do you have? Is your tail gate bolt welded on?

 

Does seem to be a trend of a specific style or maye place of where it was manufactured as well ?

 

Well I notice that Georgeth1022 also has a 2013 Baja just like I do and his experience was the same as mine. So the plot thickens, as they say.

 

2015 DCSB TRD OR. I'll check the bolt after work and report back.

Is this supposedly JUST a 2013 model problem? I ask because i have a 2012. Lol. And i would like some sort of tailgate shock as well and was interested lol

 

So it seems that isn't welded but heavily lock-tited. Try torching it to melt the lock-tite and try again.
