I used the front USB port today (the one on the center console just below the climate controls) and to my surprise nothing happened. I was expecting it to begin charging my phone but it didn't do anything. I tried with Samsung S6 and Samsung Note 5. Anyone else have this issue? Is it normal? Is there something I'm missing?

    Reserected from the dead.
I'm pretty sure that port is to load your own music off a memory stick.

Your phones require more amps than what is provided by the USB port.

From what I've gathered from other threads, it doesn't support charging. Not enough juice apparently.

Mine charges my iPhone 6s just fine, and pops it up on my Entune under the USB entry to play music from.

It only takes 1.1 amps to charge the phone? Your saying the USB port doesn't have 1.1amps?

The problem is the USB port is only USB2.0

You can still have a usb2.0 port with enough amperage to charge a phone. I feel like if this is the case where there isn't enough amperage in the port to charge a phone, I'm going to be pretty disappointed with Toyota.

    Irrelevant to the power delivery.

I think it may be only delivering the 500ma base USB spec, which isn't enough to charge some/many phones. I've not measured it.

Really a non-problem, $10 and you have dual 2.4A charging ports either at the outlet a couple inches to the right or at the outlet inside the center console. https://www.amazon.com/Aukey-CC-S1-4-8A-Dual-Charger/dp/B00M6QODH2

I was all set to recommend a charge-only USB cable that I've had luck with charging from a couple made-for-iPhone car chargers, but I just ran out and tested it and it doesn't work at all. Seems like you might be right about the amperage. I think I've seen some posts on here about hooking that USB port up to a real charger, I'll see if I can find it.

Edit: can't find the forum post, but I'm thinking it was one of these used to add a couple ports instead: https://www.amazon.com/CH4x4-Toyota-Small-Power-Socket/dp/B00TEICVHY
