From what I witnessed on the video. 3rd Gen did outperform 2nd Gen (at least time to top of grade) by 50 seconds. Is there something I'm missing?

Info mentioned was not just for towing. Wind and hill grade can affect a lockup convertor with an empty truck. My dodge 5.9 L as mentioned previously , seemed to have an extra gear . Again does anyone know if a locking and unlocking ,lockup torque convertor make a 2016 Tacoma 6 spd auto make it seem like it is shifting gears ?

Good news. I am proud to say my Tacoma transmission has not given me any trouble this week.
Bad news. I have not driven my Tacoma this week.

I just got my TSB done at my 25K service. To the person who asked how long it takes, the TSB says 0.5 hr but when I scheduled an Express Service online and requested the TSB, I got a call-back from the dealer that they would need "all day". In reality, I dropped it off at 8:15 and picked it up at 3:00. I suspect they prioritize money-making service jobs for the more senior techs; 25K plus TSB is free for me and doesn't make much money for the dealership. Anyway, all I did was drive 10 miles home on mixed city streets and rush hour freeway, but the shift behavior is noticeably different. Quicker to downshift twice at low rpm, part-throttle, to get into the powerband and provide much snappier throttle response. But those downshifts (again, part-throttle) seemed very smooth, so it wasn't at all unpleasant. I had problems with it downshifting from 5th to 4th as soon as I turned on cruise control, that too seems to be gone though with heavy traffic I could only turn on CC for a few seconds at around 58-60 mph. The service writer who pulled my paperwork waiting for my service writer to get back to her desk seemed surprised they hadn't checked the trans fluid (I have a TRD with tow pkg) but I have had no lurch from P to D or R, or shift flare, just lazy downshift at lower rpm, early upshifts then downshifts at higher rpm, and the CC downshift.

Sounds like my '16; see my other post but in the first 10 miles after the TSB it feels much better.

So they told me they needed to order new drums and new brake shoes. They also performed a reflash for my transmission issues..

My 2014 Tacoma pulled it like I didn't know it was back there either. Not sure what was wrong with my 2016 Tacoma but Toyota never wanted to try to figure it out so I'm now driving an F150 since I had no other options. I'm disappointed as I really loved all my previous Tacoma's and I was excited for the new Gen 3 until I owned it.

I had my 15k tire rotation done on my 2016 Wednesday. I brought up the TSB's. They said there were 2. The 77-16 and 79-15 and they performed both. Exactly an hour from the time my truck went into the garage for the TSB portion of my visit to the time it was done.

Drives much better, smoother, and it appears my gas mileage has also gotten slightly better than it was before.

Someone mentioned the TSB can only be done when the vehicle is cold - as per their service tech. Was that the case in your service?

When I got the 77-16 done they did it while my truck came right off the street. Getting 2nd TSB next Friday.

I thought 0077-16 is for V6 and 0079-15 is for 2.7 four. How can they do both?

Good question! I don't know that either. When I made my appointment with the service writer he didn't say one way or the other. He just made the appointment...
