Will 2 motorcycles fit in the bed?

So I just purchased a 2010 4x4 dbl cab long bed Tacoma. In two weeks a buddy and myself are going to head south and take our sportbikes with us for some Florida riding. I am very curious if it is possible to fit two sportbikes in the back of the 2nd gen Tacoma Long bed and, if possible, got a pic or 2 of the bikes in the back? I really don't want to have to trailer them due to the length of the trip and the fact that my trailer sucks! If it helps, the bikes are a ducati monster and a Suzuki GSX600. I'm planning on cutting a piece of plywood to fit the front of the bed and installing some front motorcycle wheel chocks to keep the bikes verticle and stable. Any help or advice is greatly appreciated!

 

I noticed today that I have two D rings mounted to the rear of the bed but none near the front. Is this an oversight when my truck was assembled or just something that I'm gonna have to add on myself? Just struck me as odd that they wouldn't place one in each corner of the bed.

 

you will need to add the D rings if you want them, but when I put my bike in the back I just use the hooks in the bed rails. You may get two bikes in, but its going to be tough.

 

My buddy had a 05 Taco and we put my 05GSXR and his 03 in the bed. had to keep the tailgate down but we made it work somehow

 

I myself would not recommend it. I had my R1 in the back and somehow the headboard of the bed actually cracked and split from top right down to the bottom of the bed. Also, I hope you are not going to Florida looking for twisties. You won't find them. All the roads are straight and flat. Save yourself the time and go to Deal's Gap.

 

careful tying street bikes down to those movable hooks in the bed rails...i've heard of them coming loose before under the weight of street bikes vs. dirt bikes.

but i think you'll be fine. i hauled dirt bikes in my short bed, hell ,even a golf cart (that was fuckin' interesting to say the least)

 

I wonder how difficult it would be to mount the D rings in the front of the bed. I'm planning on securing the bikes with some wheel chocks mounted to some plywood cut to fit the front of the bed. If I go that route my main concern is securing the plywood cut-out since it would cover any D ring mounts. Perhaps I can drill some holes for the D rings, and mount the plywood using those holes. This would eliminate the need for the D rings since the wheel chocks I am using are T-shaped and have tie down spots on them for each bikes front end. Once I am done with this set-up, I can then remove the plywood cut-out with the chocks and install the D rings where I mounted the plywood. Sounds good in my head but wonder how it will work in real life

As for riding twisties in Florida... Yah not expecting to. We just want to ride and Deals Gap in the beginning of February is a death wish IMHO. We just want to relax and ride from Orlando to places like Daytona, Cape Canaveral, and perhaps Tampa. It's about the only place warm enough this time of year to ride so we are gonna do what we can to have a lil fun!

extra d-ring's

 

Definitely add new D-Rings to the front. You can either get the toyota D-rings and add them to the reccomended location, or you can just buy generic ones and throw them under the front bed bolts. Or both...

Also, if you have time, go to your dealer and complain that you have a harsh ride with a lot of weight in the bed. They will replace your rear springs under warranty with a stiffer leaf pack. This is well discussed on this forum (search for TSB leaf pack). With two sport bikes in the back you will be a lot happier with the stiffer springs.

i have been dreaming of that ramp for a couple of years! i don't think it will do me much good... loading more then one bike in a short bed means the back wheels will be hanging out past the edge of the tail gate

a golf cart? in a short bed? just when i was begining to think my trucks bed was pretty useless! i'd like to see some pictures of that.

 

You can fit them no problem. I throw 2 bikes in the bed to take to the track several times a year. I use my baxley wheels chocks, cyclesynches, and the added D-rings up front. Loading is a breeze.

 

Get two 2x10 boardsand scre them together and put eye let screws for tie downs and from the weight of front tires they wont move. Use the back tiedowns for the rears and use extra straps for the the tie down ls on the etract u will be good to go been a many of trips with my 2 r1's
