Here's another question. ABout a year ago I bought a Readywelderhttp://readywelder.com/ I've never used it buy I keep in in the truck in case something happens. Using it would be kind of a pain in the ass. I'd have to pull both my batteries (or one of mine and one of someone elses and then hook them up in series.

Can anyone thing of a way, or a product that I could install to get a 24volt sourse wuth the flip of a swich or something simpler than fully disconnecting the bateries. Now I need to decide on batteries. Leaning towards the Optima Group 34 yellow top as my main batter. It has less CCA's that the Group 27 but a higher reserve capacity by a lot. My winch would be hooked to the GM screw terminals

For the "house battery" I'm looking at the Blue top Group 31 or 27. THe Group 31 has better specs but I'm not 100% sure it will fit. I have 10" under the tool box and the battery is listed at 9 3/8 tall. I'm not sure if that includes the battery terminals. If it doesnt, the battery is going to sort out on my toolbox, which would suck.

anyone have any opinions? Any reason to choose different batteries? Anything I'm overlooking or should add to the setup? I probably should wire in a voltmeter somewhere

Any input is appreciated. I'll probably order batteries tonight. I've been having to keep my truck on the charger at night to make sure it'll get me to work every morning

 

Looks good. You gotta watch with those Quick Connects, they often list them as just a single Connector without Terminals, but that one you have listed looks like it reads a pair and has terminals. I like a Circuit Breaker for my winch, though If you want an on/off switch get this type.

Just ordered this but I have no idea where i'll mount it

 

I don't want to go thru 69 pages, but was is the best set up for a 2015 off road with the upgraded heavy duty battery? I would love to also have room for cold air intake and a air compressor. Thanks for any help to a taco noob.

 

Battery would be fine if you laid it on its side, if that's a option for you.

 

Hadnt thought of that. Ended up buying 2 Group 27 Blue tops. Only difference I see between them and the yellow tops is the additional threaded stud which I have on my current main battery and is convenient as hell for attaching my winch cables.

Just realized that military terminal kit comes with lugs for 2 gauge and I bought 0 gauge cable. So I ordered some marine grade lugs and one of those fancy crimpers.

All total I'm about $800 or so in this project but it should solve this problem permanently so fuck it. It'll suck all over again when I do all this to my other truck as well

 

You won't get much help unless you try to help yourself. You've come this far, for I'm assuming you want 2 batteries, do a little more work. Maybe state what you are looking for in a "set up for a 2015 offroad.."

 

Sorry I've been reading a lot on the topic and its just pretty confusing/overwhelming. I was looking for a duel battery set up because i camp alot and could use it for the electronics/fridge and just to make sure my main battery doesnt die out in the backcountry. I have the tow package with the heavy duty battery so i know its larger and dont know what set ups im restricted to because of the size. Also would i need to get the exact same size battery as the heavy duty one i currently have as the second? I believe i also have the larger alternator so i wouldn't have to mess with that at all? Thanks for any help

 

You should currently have a group 27f battery, pop the hood and check if you like, and an upgraded 130 amp alternator.

Read up here for many more opinions.

My opinion is to get a high Amp Hour (Ah) Deep Cycle battery and a solar panel. Compliment that with a blueseas ACR. The dual sensing nature or the ACRs will allow the alternator to charge both batteries while driving and the solar panel to charge both batteries while parked.

 

Sweet thanks. So its ok to use the 2 different types of batteries charging together? Are there any specific solar panels you might recomend? On the blue sea can i do what the other charging systems do? Like manual linking for jump starting/ect.

 

Anyone mounting their second battery in the bed? Would love to see how you mounted it and wired it.

Overall, this is very similar to what I did with one exception. I'm a believer in fusing the long run to the battery in the bed. I used one of these.

How does that work with jumpstarting yourself?

 

Has anyone put batteries in the compartment underneath the bench of a 2016 Tacoma TRD double cab if so what size batteries have you used if you have pictures please post.
