The AT OR hill start assist is pretty janky because of the brake booster and MTS/Crawl Control. It doesn't work like you'd expect or so the people in the thread linked below have reported. The MT OR plain doesn't have it at all. The MT Sport has it like you'd expect - brakes hold you for 1-2 seconds on a hill.

Get a new dealer. My local one has two OR MT's and a PRO MT in their inventory, so the truck you want is out there. It's just a matter of getting a dealer that will find it for you

This. I had to track down the truck I wanted. My dealer said there weren't any available. I found one about to be built and sent to another dealer two states away. I told my local dealer....look, I found the truck I want, either find a way to get it here or I will go there and get it myself. Low and behold, they called the next day and said they would get it for me. If you do their job for theme they are happy to sell you a truck.

I got lucky and walked on to the lot and found my truck exactly as I wanted it. Of course number 1 criteria being a manual... has options I wanted, BLACK, access cab, 4x4, touchscreen with navi and bluetooth, and i actually wanted the step under the rear bumper.. with the 4 inch lift its actually at a better height now than it was before. makes loading up my bike or just getting in the bed very easy

fuck an automatic... i dont care what its in, if there is a manual option its BETTER for so so so many reasons.

ps if you dont even know how to drive a manual youve got issues... lol

    Agreed on the manual.

I had been looking for a specific configuration for about 6-8 months and couldn't find it anywhere around me and nothing listed online. I was considering doing a dealer trade because there were a couple that were 5 or so hours away. I happened to be traveling a couple of hours away for Thanksgiving and I drive by this Toyota dealer on the way, and wouldn't ya know, the exact truck I was looking for is sitting on their lot. It still had all of the stickers on it and hadn't even been set up yet. It was fresh off the truck and not even listed on their website. 2017 DBSB TRD Sport 4x4 M/T with Nav, all weather floor mats, towing package, Blazing Blue Pearl color. I went in the next day and traded my RAM 1500 for it. Got a really good deal on it too. I've had for about a week and absolutely love it so far! I like it much better than my RAM. That probably has a lot to do with the manual transmission. I also like the simplicity of the truck compared to the RAM. It has only the features that I want and nothing more. It feels very solid and like it'll get the job done for many years to come. The RAM was fully loaded and I never used even a 1/4 of the features in that truck that I thought I would.

so glad you love it as much as i do... i swear it is the best truck/car I have ever owned! Simple, yet sophisticated, and just drives like a dream; even with my new suspension and big wheels/tires. good luck with your build and enjoy that blue baby!!

I'm searching and not finding, but in case anyone is having their manual transmission sticking in gears on long drives, take it to the dealership! I've been waiting Months for a resolution and the dealership has known for about 5 months about the fix. I understand they're busy and I'm just one person, but it would have been really nice if they hadn't brushed a real issue under the rug that is definitely safety related.

Toyota released a 'TCB' for the 3rd gen manuals that consists of one detent ball and two bolts. Not sure if they were missed on the assembly line, a transmission revision, or just faulty parts that are being replaced.

I'm sure someone else has posted this elsewhere in the forum, or possibly in this thread but in case you're reading and haven't already heard AND are having this issue, go see the dealership, they will quell your woes.

yeah I don't care what people say, I want to drive manual. I don't care that I'm missing out on crawl control etc. The times I'll use that vs every other time driving standard makes it a no brainer.

and to everyone saying manuals are hard to find....I had to go with a dealer 350 miles away. They were willing to order it for me no questions asked ("are you sure you don't want this one we have in stock?"). Took about 2 months but well worth the wait.

2800 miles in my TRD PRO road trip. God I want to make love to my own leg. What a beautiful feeling with the 6 MT

I just picked up my '17 DCSB Sport M/T. I'm loving it so far. I forgot how much fun it is to drive a stick. I'm coming from a RAM 1500 so it's a pretty big change. I'm not missing the power of the RAM at all thanks to the M/T in the Taco. I wouldn't have even considered the Tacoma had it not been for the manual. I hope Toyota sells a lot of these so it's worthwhile for them to continue offering it for many years to come! I fear the day you can no longer get an M/T truck in higher trim levels.

They sell less than 5 % manual. Congrats on the truck.

That's because they only make 5%. if they build 15% they would sell them.

I never disagree with you, but I am now. Market research for Toyota is an incredibly strong department, one of their best. They know it sells less than 5%. For example, 2016 you can put order for 6MT, and they would build it. Orders for MT were less than 5%, and thus that is what they make.

IF they COULD sell 15% manuals, as you claim, they would have made it....

Given the small percentage of Tacos that are built as MT, do they still hold their value as well as the ATs?

    Yes.

What I have found is, IF you can find the MT buyer, you will get a premium. But of all my MT cars/trucks, sometimes they sit on the market a little bit more.
