^^^ How are they compared to the other "common" approach which is to modify the Curt front tow hitch to fit a winch?

Having not directly compared my winch bracket to a 'modified curt' system I can only give speculative answers. These are the reasons I chose not to use the curt receiver for my build; Curt would have given me a lower approach angle, I didn't need a 2" receiver in the front, not to mention I would still be heavily modifying the receiver to still be using the stock skid plate and my system ties into the frame in six points not the four that the Curt receiver ties into. Also from what I've read of the receiver builds most of these have to open the hood to access the solenoid box, no need to open the hood with my design.

I'm interested. Did anyone send you a smittybilt winch for design? That's what I'd like to mount on mine.

 

Thanks for the feedback. I just finished researching and choosing parts for my brakes... I'm going to dig into the winch setup heavily now. Let me check your photos as well as your recommended winch and the cost of adding a synthetic (fiber, whatever it's called) line and get back to you. I'm very interested in this as I don't want an offroad bumper. You should be hearing back from me soon.

 

The WARN 8000 is a bit out of my price range, but the VR8000 is much closer to what I want to spend on the winch. I'm not offroading all the time like some of you guys. I want it as a necessity for where I live and if there is a heavy snow and I get stuck. The spec reads 80lbs for it. Any idea how much that weight will drop if I change the steel cable for synthetic rope?

 

I haven't got my hands on a smittybilt to built a prototype for, are you interested? It would really be great to get this project out of the closet again!

 

I'm just guesstimating like I was saying in a previous post that it would reduce the weight by 15lbs, which is all the intel I've gathered from various forums and specs on various winches. I am currently running a steel line on my M8000.

Wow, for 15 lbs (and another comparison I found where the weight savings was 18lbs) I don't really see the point of the added cost of synthetic rope. IF one were saving 30lbs that would be one thing. But for a sub 20 lbs saving? Nah.

 

Just received my custom mount from TacoREX and I love it. It was built for a Smittybilt 9500. Great product. Here's some pics. Need to paint and mount, I'll post more

Over the last few days have been painting the winch mount and finally got it mounted today. I'm very happy with the results and the craftsmanship of TacoRex. If you're looking for a stock bumper winch mount he is your man! Here's some finished photos:

should be getting in contact with you soon. This is being added to mod list, top of list as well. Don't wheel Taco as hard as Jeep but still get remote with it and some hidden insurance is always good.

 

Curious if anyone has tried this with the newer VR series winches with built in solenoids over cable?

 

A winch with integrated solenoid wouldn't have sufficient clearance without major modification to grill support and possibly radiator.

 

Is it possible to use this in conjunction with a separately mounted brush guard with regards to the mounting location(s)?
