so i hear the stock intakes are basically the best but im still on the quest to find more power for my 17 tacoma.

whats your opinion on a trd performance intake vs. AFE momentum intake?

but also, any intake that rebolts to factory holes is not worth the money. unless you go URD TCAI, I wouldnt waste your time/money. the URD moves the intake to in front of the radiator so it actually gets on average 30*F cooler air which = denser air which = better performance. dont be fooled by a "cool" sound and a "heat box" from the other brands. if you install it in the SAME SPOT as the factory....how can it be any better. its still in the engine bay.

I hate intakes and its probably the one thing I have in my little soap box.

    rant over. good luck!

TBH, the difference in gains from either one would be marginal if that's all you're adding. You'll get a cool noise from under the hood so it might "sound faster" though. There might be a slightly better throttle response with either intake. Tacomas in general lack the ability to breathe to their potential so if you're really looking for substantial gains in HP, you'd be looking at revamping the entire system: intake, supercharger?, injectors, headers, and full exhaust. You'll definitely notice the difference there, but $$$ vs gains might not be worth it to some.
If all you're asking is which intake is better, then I'd say you can't go wrong with either one. AFE is cheaper, but depending on where you live, I believe the TRD is 50 state compliant.

I would have gone URD TCAI if they actually made them for the 2016+ tacoma. I had to get the AFE one since they don't. Doesn't really add horsepower or gas mileage but it does make the engine sound awesome.

True, however lets review the facts. This is a forum that Tacoma enthusiasts visit to share info, ask for info, or to simply discuss a myriad of broad topics. Of course there are other threads, however sometimes these other threads do not answer a question you may have specifically. You can comment on those threads, however not everyone responds, or if the thread is old, maybe those users arent even on this forum anymore.

    Live and let live, bro.

for the URD, call Gadget up and ask. He pretty friendly and super knowledgeable. I have never had a bad expereince with him and still order my intake filters through him for the TCAI.

    EDIT: urdusa.com

HEY! seems like I havnt "seen" ya in a while haha

The only thing you'll gain is more noise, and a lighter wallet.

Pretty sure with an opened up exhaust and a higher flow intake we get more power. That's just physics.... and it sounds good as well.

I'm thinking of getting the TRD intake. Already have a TRD air filter.. probably pretty much the same thing... I think the stock box was looked at pretty closely for optimal temps for intake since these trucks are sold world wide.

Yeah naturally it should put out a little more power. Even if its nothing substantial, I am still stoked I dont have to worry about re-tuning every time I bolt on a part with the tacoma. My STI was so sensitive to mods that you'd have to tune that thing after putting on window tints LOL

Stay tuned, I'll report back with my impressions once I install my exhaust. Got the MBRP under dump cbe. Let me know about the intake. I'd prefer to run the TRD incase (subaru anxiety initiated) I run into any issues down the road - wouldnt want to have a warranty claim denied :0

Has anyone posted a sound clip of what a CAI sounds like compared to stock, or different makes of CAI to compare?

I have change both intake and exhaust. Other then sound, it will make very little difference. The computer will sense the changes and will adjust back to ground zero. I have also tried non-ethenol gas with some change but after a couple hundreds miles the computer does the same thing. I do not think any bolt hardware will increase performance much. Until there is a after market chip update.

    all tore up already
a system only flows as well as its most restrictive part. on an intake it usually isnt the air filter or tube just like on an exhaust it isnt your tailpipe or muffler. ive seen claims of "up to +17hp". well -3hp, 0hp and +.1hp all fit in this claim.
