Yeah, I follow your build as well and figured the Hankook wouldn't really serve my purposes. That's why I was hopeful to find out about the Coopers.
Also, I'll address it when the time comes, but I'm almost to the point now that a small tub job might just be easier than the constant smashing I already do. It would almost certainly look cleaner.

@Ice Horse has brand new 295 stt pros on 17's I believe.
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/ice-horses-1998-tacoma-long-travel-hybrid-project.426743/page-18

I have the 305 like Austin said. I like them for the long travel with the 16" wheel they work great. If I had a 17" I would go 295 or 315.

Really quiet on the road too for being as aggressive as they are.

285/75R17 Cooper ST. Maxx, true 34" and fit with massive amounts of hammer bashing. Mild rubbing on the frame at full turn, not worried about it. Very minimal rubbing in the fender at full stuff. Not gonna do anything about that either.
nobody is mentioning that you really need to find the correct wheel as well. I'm using a 17x9 with 4.50 backspacing or -12 offset. No wheel spacers.

Mine are true to their sizing chart. Just over a 33" at 33.46

The 285/75/17 runs about 1/2" taller than the 295/70/17 as per the almighty TW tire calculator. Pretty sure it's a 295 for me. Also, I'll have to bump up from a 16" wheel, so I'd really like to ditch my spacers and just have the correct BS. I want just about any SCS wheel, but I haven't seen any in a 9" width. Seems like they're all 8.5" pretty sure I can make it work one way or the other.

Sorry for the thread jack OP, thx for everyone that chimed in!

The SCS wheels are the correct backspacing in the 8 1/2x17.

I love my ST Maxx! They do great in the snow. I live on top of a small mountain with a dirt road with packed snow on it and the only time I use four wheel drive is if I'm pushing through fresh snow. Idk if this is telling how great these tires are or how weak my truck is but it can be difficult to break them loose in 2nd gear on hard pack snow.

I think the ST MAXX is the best all around tire. More aggressive than most ATs and great performance in snow and rain where a MT would not be the best.

IMO the 295 are to wide and don't bite into the snow. I had 295 trail grapplers and thought they sucked on hard pack snow. Granted they were warn but I need four wheel drive to get out of parking spots that were on a mild incline.

    My 2 cents...

The to wide to bite into snow confuses me.:notsure: How can a tire be to wide to bite into snow?

He is more talking about flotation. A wider tire will not dig down as easy as there is less pressure on the tread blocks. Snow bashing, both narrow and wide can have individual benefits.

    Wider tire, larger footprint.
    Narrower tire, slice n dice.

Yeah but honestly.. like the tread it self doesn't tear through the snow. Tires spin, tread cuts... it's debatable I guess. To each their own.

Theory is that a skinny tire will cut down to whatever is under the snow. That's great until you lay frame.
Then a wide flotation tire is better at that point.
For street, skinny rules. Off road snow bashing, give me tall and fat and aggressive.
