Not true. Some of of the fabricators you mentioned have design flaws that others have corrected/or is being corrected soon.

    Check this post

These are trucks that use skids because they truly need skids to protect the truck's underbelly during some hard core rockcrawling

    Owned a 16 OR

My 17 PRo wheels are way uglier than the 16 OR wheels

Thus it was a must to replace

I heard you just picked up a front and rear bumper...

I am excited to see it. You better lift that truck lol. You think it sits low now, wait until you add another 165 lbs in our skids and 300-400 lbs in bumpers.

Yup. 5100's/884's, OEM UCA's get pulled out. 6112's and 700# Eibachs, SPC LR UCA's go in.
    Big winter project.

    AWWWW YEEEESSSHHH

Will it be on for the trip on the first?

I guess this means I will be alone because I still haven't done anything to the turd gen other than skids, sliders and a rear bumper. Still stock suspension and tires.

Cruisin offroad bumper, RCI front skid, Bakflip Tonneau Cover, Westin Running Boards, door molding, Blazer Led lights, Bed Lights, DIY Bed/rear cab mats, 3M Clear Bra (Hood and Fenders), Husky front floor mats, re diff relocated, Coverking seat covers
I did have the trd plate on my truck when I first got it as I got it used. However since then I now have the RCI skid up front and I would never trust the stock alunminum and tin skids for anything other than mall crawling lol. I opted for steel up front as I got the scratch and dent price and there are some very crucial components in the front end. All the others once I have the proper funds will be in aluminum to keep the weight down.

I wouldnt use bedliner or powdercoat on a skid, like others have said it will chip easy and bed liner will grab and peel vs slide over objects. I just used tremclad primer (rustolleum), 3 coats of flat black paint then 3 coats of semi gloss black krylon enamel. So far in ontario with our slaty and sandy winter roads, no chips or damages to the finish.

Seeing as the OP was asking between RCI and TRD my guess is he won't be doing any serious crawling or anything to really overly beat up whatever skids he gets, any steel he gets will serve him equally well.

You are right though, some have been designed differently to address weak points and would be better for more serious crawlers. Thanks for the post link, good info.

Here's a good example of a well design skid:
