Is your digital speedometer off?

My analog speedometer is 1 or 2 MPH fast, however my digital speedometer is dead on. If I put 265/75/16 tires on, my analog will be correct, however I'm thinking my digital one will be slow. What happened to yours?

 

Nothing will change with the speedo. You will how ever be going faster then what your speedo shows.

 

Nothing will change the speedo with different tire size until you get a calibrator

But I do notice the same shit sometimes with a difference between the 2.

 

Right, I just wanted to verify that for those who have installed 265/75/16 or larger, you did indeed see your digital speedometer show slower than actual speed. I just want to verify that the digital speedometer is not based off of GPS.

 

I read 4mph slower after installing 285/75/16.

 

At what speed?

 

I can verify. My tires will make me go 3.3% faster. So at 70 I'm doing just over 72. My phone says 72. Both indicators on the dash say 70.

 

Is there a calibrator available for the 3rd gen Tacoma?

 

Hypertech speedometer calibrator. I read in a thread the other day it does work with 16 and 17 tacomas although not listed as a vehicle application from hypertech.

Yours is actually reading correct. This picture was taken at a slight angle. If you look dead on at the needle it will be reading right on the 40 line. Speedos read at the end of the line. For example:
This is 80mph NOT 81mph


Larger tires, your speedo will be reading the same but your actual speed will be different.

 

I've moved around. That picture was taken at almost a direct angle. I can honestly say it's off.

I'm an operator at a nuclear plant. I know how to read gauges pretty accurately.



I took this from above for yah @DRJ1014 so it should be reading a lower speed from that angle.

 

Do you have any pics of the truck with those tired? Planning on getting a set after a 3" lift thanks

 

Not to go completely off course here, but has anyone noticed their speedo twitching occasionally? I'm not bitching, just curious if
I need my eyes checked

 

I've noticed that sometimes in the summer when there are lots of bikinis at the pool.

 

Many "What's Your Speed" apps for phones available. That's how I check my truck speed vs a GPS speed.
