My ballasts draw enough amps on the warmup cycle that they blow the 15amp fuse. Needed a 20 amp fuse or a relay. I ultimately opted for the relay.

Honestly I'm not sure, but sometimes better safe than sorry. I had a DDM kit on my 2008 C-Class and it worked for about 2 years before dying and needing a replacement. Luckily DDM sent me a new setup with no hassle. Someone just posted a blown fuse from a DDM kit. While I think they're good economy kits, I imagine that keeping the load off your harness is never going to hurt anything... even if it is a little more expensive.

Ive used DDM kits on my 2005 CRV, retrofitted and my 1995 integra, also retrofitted. Quality is okay, but I've had a problem with bulbs dying prematurely and some ballasts dying in a year or two. I told myself that I'm going to get a higher quality kit for the Tacoma...either Morimoto's or the Xenon depot's with the Phillips bulbs.

DDM tuning sells a dual relay kit. I had the old single relay kit and it worked well until the relay got wet, so I bought a dual relay. so far so good.

I'll run the xenon depots til I can afford to, and have enough courage, to cut up the stock headlights and retrofit.

Here's a picture of the CRV with Infinity G37 projectors, with the 5500k 55w Ultra D2S kit from DDM.

passenger side doesn't have the dip in the beam anymore, fixed that after I took the headlights apart again to adjust the projectors

and one more just cuz ;)

Do you have a suggestion for this?

bulbs are what make the difference for light output. ballasts are more about longevity. from what I've seen, xenon depot HID's don't have the vibration issues, plus you can get the 4300k Phillips bulbs for a bit more but it's worth the extra dough if output is what you're concerned about

Frankly it's getting the brighter light coming out of the projector. HID's sparkle and always look great. I do not need much light... I live in a big city and rarely drive off road. I just want brighter looking lights.

I have had issues with their standard ballasts, which are plastic. I've been able to get them replaced for free since they have a lifetime warranty. This time I went with the Plus kit which has an upgraded ballast. Only time will tell how these perform.
Nice projectors on the CRV btw!

Why does everyone still what to use HID when LED are just as bright, use less power and are an easier install? I have LEDs in my new Camry and gen 2 Tacoma and the light output is equal to the HID that I had installed. Nice thing is that the LED are instant on but my HID had a warm up time before they achieved full brightness.

I just got rid of my LED DDM Saber kit. They don't throw as far in the 3rd gen projectors and suck in inclement weather. I am probably going to go the correct route from now on and pickup a legit kit with a relay.

Hey man, so you have LED in your Tacoma? What "colour" do they produce for example? I am curious about this.

@silvio I took them out they were huge piles of crap. look at my profile and my postings from the ddm saber thread. If you buy get the error eliminator things, but honestly it does not project far at all and sucks in the rain and snow

Because they are not just as bright. You're comparing an OEM LED headlamp that has LEDs integrated into specifically designed housings meant to take advantage of the characteristics of the LED to aftermarket HID kits. Aftermarket LEDs are not performing at comparable levels yet because they are going into housings not designed for them and are losing efficiency as a result.

In that first pic, the output dies in the middle of the beam. You will lose a ton of available light for safety that projects down the road.

Gotcha, The few things I am disappointed with in my 2017 is the lack of HID's, Leather/power seats. That's literally it. I am having leather put in soon and I want to update the lights. I had a cheap set of HID's in a 2010 Mercedes which is a sensitive system and they worked well. Everything was so hidden nobody could see the extra parts. What I would like is a clean system that connects to existing wiring... I have spent the past two days reading every post on this forum from members. Lots of success and lots of trouble with different systems.

Here's my thread. All in cost was about 120 and these are super high quality components. I've outlined where I mounted it for clean, hidden look. I ran into problems with the ballasts blowing the 15amp fuse during the warmup cycle with the stock wiring so I went to relay harness and it's been perfect since.

Hey dude, can you show me how you wired your harness in?

Funny we are talking about this topic... I just showed my neighbour my truck and the first thing he said "HID's eh?"... Sadly no lol

HID are going into housing they are not designed for them as well. I actually was running HID low beam in both the Camry (projection same bulb as the 16+ Tacoma) and my '12 Tacoma. The new LED I installed work just as well in the Camry and better in the Tacoma. No scattered light with a sharp cut off line. I dropped the HID because I hated the delay time of having to wait for the high beams to come to full intensity. A ballast failure sealed the deal.

Just another option to consider. HID will soon be a thing of the past. LED light are going to be the norm soon. The new Corolla is using LED and they're very bright.
