Has anyone else noticed the adhesive between the hood and underhood reinforcement becoming detached? Took my truck in last week for first service and mentioned the issue, guess they're going to replace my entire hood.

Sorry no pics at the moment, will take some this weekend.

Surprised they didn't try and fix the adhesion before replacing the entire hood .. hopefully your new hood is problem free

My hood is solid, no vibration to be seen on my 2017 OR.

But sounds like some ppl have the adhesive break loose? Or do they vibrate from the factory?

Yes the adhesive can break loose. There's a TSB for it (basically applies "proper" adhesive). Dealer typically won't replace the hood. The quality issue was fixed some time during the 2016 production run, so 2017s shouldn't be affected.

The 17 that I had for an extended test drive had the vibrating hood, hopefully its something that the company is working on a fix for.

It's also possible for the hood to vibrate if the bumpstops aren't adjusted properly on the LH and RH corners of the radiator support.

Other owners have not been successful in getting the Sport hood. Toyota just goes by the VIN for warranty part fulfillment.
Looks like I remembered incorrectly. There's said to be a Toyota "repair kit" the dealer can order, but no TSB mentioned by anybody.

I know an individual here who had to have half a dozen hoods replaced on their 16. The truck got lemoned eventually. No kidding. Toyota still has no official fix for this the dealership will attempt to fix by outsourcing it to a body shop and they have in some cases fucked up people's trucks with crappy over spray jobs and lousy adhesive application. I'm hoping mine flys off the truck on the highway so I can file a lawsuit for negligence by toyota. Just another third gen issue that needs addressed at the corporate level which has been essentially ignored and left for the customer to risk dealing with at the detriment of the value of their brand new warranteed vehicle.

I'm curious what it is about the off-road hoods that makes them susceptible to this problem. I would have imagined that the sport's scoop creates more drag and would result in more vibrations/force being applied on the hood, but I don't think anyone w/ a sport hood has reported this problem. Are there more differences to the hood designs than just scoop/no-scoop?

Surface area of the hood skin is greater on the offroad the scoop adds rigidity

Right. Hadn't considered rigidity. So if rigidity is a factor that aids in "solving" this problem, then it would suggest vibrations start at one end of the hood and transmit to the other (being broken up by the scoop when present). Maybe blocking the entry of air under the front of the hood (with weatherstripping or something similar) would help, similar to how roof racks deal with noise issues...

They should have the "scoop" on the off road...

Personally, I would rather choose a repair than replacement. Too much danger of mismatching paint, and that would drive me NUTS until the end of time.

Paint mismatch is not a real issue with replacing panels on new vehicles. As the vehicle ages, the paint color can fade.
Of course there's always the fiberglass upgrade option. Functional scoop, too: https://www.carid.com/2016-toyota-tacoma-custom-hoods/rk-sport-custom-hoods-271031794.html

There are several photos around here of mismatching MGM (front half of truck doesn't match back half) and one of quicksand that say it's more of an issue than you think. For something simple like black, yeah probably fine. I would be worried with more complicated paints like the flake in MGM.
