Quick question regarding towing.

So I have a 2009 Taco Prerunner V6 the manual says it was tow up to 6500 lbs I believe? So the question is my friend has a boat that is a 25 ft Mako with a OB Yamaha 250 attached to it.

I think I can tow this boat no problem due to the boat being maybe 5k-6k total lbs, the only problem I see is pulling the boat out of the water.

Has anyone run into an issue with pulling bigger boats out the water?

Once or twice probably won't hurt anything launching from a decent ramp but you're towing at the limits of the truck. Got trailer brakes? You'll need them for sure.

Also have you tried pulling anything this large with a tacoma? specifically a boat?

My boat is about 4000 lbs. and w/o brakes it's okay. I wouldn't want to tow more than that without them though. Can't help you on cost, sorry. Read the Bible posted. That helps. Personally, I wouldn't launch w/o 4WD unless it were a shallow lake with a paved pad but that's just me. Good luck!

 

It really also depends on the type and condition of the launch ramp.
Can it be done probably, should it be done probably not. Do you have the base model, offroad or sport??

6500lbs is the capacity with the factory tow package, without its 3500lbs.
Definately should add trailer brakes, the boat trailer is probably double axel and equipped with brakes.

Well we go ocean fishing, so we would be launching the boat into the ocean.

Is your boat 4x2?, and if it is have you ever had any slipping while your wheels are in the water?

Besides that, getting down into low tide territory can be damned slippery. You have LSD, right? That'll help. It's all about the ramp. Where I launch, the ramps are new and well maintained so no issue for me no matter what. FTM, I rarely use 4WD. If you launch it often enough in enough different places, I'll guess you may have a few stories to tell your friends by season's end.

But may I ask what LSD is?, unfortunately my truck didn't come with a Owners Manual and im still waiting for mine from Toyota.

Also im assuming that your truck is 4x4 correct?

my bro bought a fleetwood pop up camper. he also owns a bassboat. he had a "DUH" moment, when the realized he couldnt tow both. on one trip, he figured which was lighter and let his friend tow his boat with his 2008 DC offroad with tow package. they towed to elephant butte lake, and the toyota did wonderfully. the bass boat weighs maybe 2800 lbs, 20 footer with 200hp outboard..only the longest, steepest hills slowed him down. fuel mileage went to crap. 11 mpg? he had to use 4wd on the relatively primative boat ramps.
