Are yall disconnecting the battery when you do this??

 

I didn't. Don't have to. Only "had" to when I changed my steering wheels controls, just in case, because of the air bag sensor.

 

Right on, I went ahead and ordered the wheel controls too!

 

Atta boy!!!!!!! Those are easy to do as well. For that, disconnect the negative on the battery just in case because of the air bag sensor.

When you go to do it, there are two caps on the steering column you have to pop out. One on each side. Pop those out, there is a screw on each side. The "tricky" part is to make sure you unscrew each bolt ALL THE WAY and pull it out. If you don't, it still catches the thread a bit and it won't let you pop off the center pc of the steering wheel. After that it's super easy as far as disconnecting the existing controls and connecting the new ones.

For the steering wheel controls, only thing is you don't obviously have to remove the steering wheel, but it should give you an idea of how to remove the controls to swap.

 

@Cativelense, thanks for answering all that while I was still sleeping haha. @ChadsPride, if you're trying to remove the vent panel around the radio you'll need to remove the cluster surround also. Those instructions can be found here. You can get away with kind of prying up on the edge covering the ac vent panel(you'll see what I mean when you take the radio out), but I prefer to take the extra time, as I'm sure you do too, to not pry at plastic pieces. Let me know if you need any other help man!

Good point. Completely forgot to mention that. Definitely better safe than sorry and remove the cluster surround to then remove the AC vent pc.

 

So in order to change the AC vent covers I have to take out the Gage cluster???

 

I wouldn't say have to, but it prevents you from prying it up enough to get the ac vent cover from under it. You'll see how it holds it in place once you take the radio out. It only takes about an extra 20 minutes but is definitely worth it.

 

Definitely easier to do that, to pop out the vent cover much easier.

And while you're at it, you can paint the gauge cluster rings black as well like I did!

 

Do the rings just pop off when you have the cluster off?

 

Pretty much. There are tabs behind them, that hold them in place, clipped to the pc that comes off. Just have to pry lightly so they don't break off.
