Well, turns out it's an infinitely easier process if you just take the damn grill out.

Haha she was calling you in to the mall. Little did she know.

 

I think the time I'm thinking of, we were trying to respool my wire rope and Jace pulled too much and yanked the cable off the drum. Then we reattached it through the fairlead like a couple of idiots.
It was some time after that that I realized there was all kinds of access with the grill removed.
