Hey guys, I have a bare metal US Offroad winch bumper for my '13 DCLB. After cleaning it, what seems to be the consensus for a durable paint?

I was planning on Rustoleum rattle can, but Ive also heard POR15 as an option.
Also, are you guys just spraying onto the bare metal or do you lay down a primer?

    Thanks,
    Matt

I clean it, lay down a rust converter, then primer, then duplicolor bedliner/coat

to get the best results, id sand down to bare metal, lay down a couple coats of primer, and then a couple coats of base coat, followed by clear coat if youre doing a two stage paint. Two stage is typically only used when color matching it.

I got paint from automotivetouchupstore.com to color match my shell and bumpers.

Heres how it turned out, the shell was white when i got it off craigslist.

If you dont plan on color matching, id still use a couple coats of primer but then id probably just go with rustoleum and lay down 2-3 coats of that. You can do more than that to make it more durable, but that should hold up pretty well.

Edited to add: heres a good thread, whichever way you decide to go, should be some useful info in here

No color matching, just want a durable non-glossy black on the winch bumper. So I think I'll go with the Rustoleum or the Duplicolor bedliner as stated above.

Yup, even after cleaning there can be some oxidation left behind so I was small about it lol

here's what I did on my sliders and it's been holding up well:

Remove surface rust with scrub pad / sandpaper / etc depending on need.
Wipe down with degreaser / alcohol
2 coats of Rustoleum etching primer
    2-3 coats of Rustoleum bedliner
2 coats of Rustoleum satin black

The bedliner has a tendency of going very flat / dark gray after a while, the satin black top coat has stayed a rich black that's not glossy for well over a year.
