Just got a '10 access cab (my third Toy truck). Find the camera a serious nuisance -- I can back up just fine without it. Anyone have a suggestion for how to disable it permanently without destroying it? Thanks!

Maybe put a piece of tape over the camera lens?

Or take apart your tailgate and unplug it.

Dang. My suggestion was gonna be to take sledge hammer to it. That would do the trick. Or you could have someone rear end you. Or paint the eye black. Or remove your tailgate. Or color over the square where the video shows up in your rear view with permanent marker. Or be blind. Some of these are pretty useful you gotta admit. Someone will know how.

Wow, didn't know the new trucks have a backup camera. The only thing I can think of is taking out the fuse, or if you can unplug it?

open the tailgate and unplug it? I don't use it for backing up because it is such a wide angle, but it doesn't interfere with the rear view mirror, so it doesn't bother me.

You can permanently disable it by pulling the plug under that black thing that comes down from the ceiling into the mirror. The only drawback to this is it cuts off the power to the auto-dim mirror so it doesn't work anymore either.

Actually make sure its in reverse with the camera on.
Then click the little "auto" button and it should go off. Before I got used to it, I about backed all over this car on the dealer lot. hahaha.
I turned it off for a while, but then turned it back on and I kinda like it. I usually look around the camera anyways.

Unplug the damned thing at the tailgate connection and insert the blank plug covers supplied with the truck for use when you remove the tailgate. Owner's manual may be one of your best friends.....

Slightly off topic, but I'm curious, does the backup camera only come with certain models/packages? Where is the display?

It comes with SR-5 or TRD packages for '09 - '10. It display on the left side of your rear view mirror. I have it in my truck and it didn't bother me much. Sometime I need it when I am in tight parking lots. Love it.

Yup, it only comes with the TRD package. But I think you can order it as an extra with the SR5 packages. The display appears in the rear view mirror. Its about 2 by 1.5 inches.
