That's one of the features of the VIMTY-05 or AVITY-01. The VIMTY-05 has an analog composite input where the AVITY-01 can mirror your iPhone (maybe your ipad, but why?). The the AVITY-01 appears to be the VIMTY-05 with an extra dongle to take the input from your phone and convert it to composite video for the VIMTY-05 input. I assume they make a similar unit for Android. Video input shows up as an option on your head unit.

The harness has some circuitry. One box appears to be a relay board (probably gets triggered from the steering wheel controls). The other box has some significant circuitry with several surface mount IC's. I assume the 2nd box is what deals with the CAN bus and does the magic that makes the video input option appear in the menu of the head unit. But these are all guesses.

I have not installed mine yet. I'm doing it to allow my daughter to enter detailed nav information while we are in motion and so I can display a front-view camera for parking. We'll see how it goes.

I called tech support today and they said that most of the JBL systems on the Tacoma will require modifying the CRUX harness. I suggested they should offer one for the JBL or at least include instructions on where to connect. They said they have had that suggestion before and he will pass it along again.

I guess I'm just going to have to pull the head unit and take a look. I think I'll get the wiring diagram so I have a plan of action for modifying the harness. The CRUX tech support folks couldn't confirm that all the needed voltages are available on the harness (so it's only a harness mod, not wiring into the truck outside the harness), but I'm guessing it's just a tweak to their harness.

sub'd. I just want the ability to input address into navi while in motion - i don't care about screen mirroring or rear cam anytime mod at this point. Hopefully someone will determine a way to do the navi hack without all the other available stuff

I use this product and it works well. Small switch box to activate and deactivate.

Isn't this what they're doing by putting a switch on the speed sense wire? Or maybe this friday the 13th has fried my mind.

This seems quite expensive when all you need to do is put a switch on a single wire to overrride the nav lockout.

I can't seem to find a definitive answer, but does doing this change anything else, or just the nav lockout? I am curious if there would ever be a reason to disable the ability, short of having the vehicle in the shop and maybe not wanting them to know it was bypassed.

Do you by chance no which wire is the correct one to apply the switch to?

Think that's what this guy did. Should be purple Pin 17 on the R31 connector. Same one that has the reverse signal wire for the backup camera. Maybe @cheuer or someone else can verify though.

I have run mine in override for week at a time. I havent seen any discernible difference in the navigation function except that all the grayed out functions are now useable to include those bluetooth functions such as phone pairing and quickdial numbers.

That being said, I still have mine on a switch.

Pin 17 of connector R31 (aka the 28 pin connector) is the Vehicle Speed signal wire.

Edit - @PJnc284 beat me to it.

Validate by checking your document for R31-17... ... and the color is violet, not purple. :D

Yes. This is correct. It is pin 17 on the 28 pin connector. looking at the back of the HU it is the bottom row and 3rd wire from the right.

In the other thread it says the speed sense wire is white & that it's the 5th pin location from the left (if your're looking at the back of headunit).
