I was wondering if anyone has ever painted their stock running boards. I am going to be painting my rims black and would like to do the same with the running boards. Anyone with any pics or advice on this? I was thinking about taking them off, but I figured I would try painting them to see how it looks. Can I use the same spray I used for the tires for them? Also, I was think about using a textured spray for the running boards. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Do you have the OEM running boards or the tube steps?

I would assume you're not talking about the OEM running boards because they're already black - and plastic. Not a good idea to paint the plastic.

not all OEM are black or plastic

to OP.... First of see if you really need running boards i took mine out last month since they wernt black and it just looks so much better without them that i sold my boards and dont want them. Now if you really need them, you can maybe get them bedlined. I dont recomed painting them black yourself with a spray paint since you will be stepping on it, other car's doors will hit it and paint will easily come off. Im not sure if you are a big fan of chipped paint or not but i personally cant stand it.

They are silver tube steps. Not the chrome ones.

The OEM Running Boards are black plastic.

    The tube steps are different.

You can use any type of paint.Only thing you need to worry about is durability.Duplicolor makes some good wheel paint that pretty durable.I used PPG shopline paint but you need spray gun. You can spray plastic but need to prep good.Silver one was when I painted my 4runner plastic cover running boards.

I like the look of my double cab with the running boards better than without. I also have a silver truck and the silver TRD running boards (they are called step bars in the TRD catelog) match well enough. To the OP, I think running boards painted to match the truck looks sharp.

I have the tube OEM boards on a silver truck and am thinking of Rhino Lining them a dark grayish color.
