Bed storage container ideas

I have a big dewalt plastic box. It has wheels so I can wheel it out when I need to move something large. I have the box chained into the truck because the box is worth more than the water bottles, shovel, neon vests, and more water bottles inside

 

Yeah, good point, they look like they would be full of tools.

I've been testing there waterproofness. It's been raining and windy like crazy here, and I left them strapped down in the back of my truck. I might go through a car wash and see how they hold up.

 

It's got a gasket around the top so I think it's water proof. It still stinks like plastic inside and it's almost 6 months old. It's been raining a lot here and it's still dry inside

Thanks Bro! it's so hard for me to carry all my fishing stuff around so I'm anxious to see how you do it. my poles don't break down, so carrying 3 poles and everything else can get daunting. I've got a similar storage box size that you have (not a cooler) and it's got wheels on the back.

 

Well the concept is pretty easy, you just have to buy a 3 rod holder at west marine or same place similar, drill some larger bolt holes than the ones they already have and secure with some bolts, washers and nuts. But I'll take some pics today for you buddy!!!

If you're going to do the fishing rod thing, I'd do it slightly differently:

Instead of mounting it to an action packer or another box, mount it to some kind of plastic/metal backing plate, and mount that plate to the bed rail so that you can place it anywhere along the bed. Further, I'd mount it at an angle so that the fishing rods will be slanted to the rear, which will decrease the chance of accidentally damaging them while driving under some obstacle.

 

very good advice as well. I'm a little reluctant to mount it to the bed, but that does make me think to somehow have a temporary mount. I'm not into drilling any permanent holes... with having a short bed, and 6'6" and 7' poles I wasn't coming up with a good way to do it. also, the tonneau cover is hindering ideas. that's why I purchased those nice locking storage totes so I could roll with the tonneau open but still have my stuff secured.

man i'm really liking mounting that 3 Rod Holder with a bit of cant so it's angled to the rear.... agree on putting a backing plate on it.

 

If you have the tools to bend metal, you can easily make brackets for that backing plate that would allow you to run the rods 100% horizontal, and above the (closed!) tonneau cover.

Just picture a piece of metal that mounts to the bed rail, extends up, goes horizontal (laying flat at the edge of the bed wall) under the tonneau, and then bends back up vertically. Easy enough to make. I use this

I have this one as well. Very roomy more than enough room for backpack, kayak gear, and extra clothes/food.

my imagination isn't allowing me to picture what you're talking about? you lost me where you said I could have it 100% horizontal and above the closed tonneau cover. paint me a little more of this picture, as i'm quite intrigued!

 

The bottom (horizontal) part of the red bracket would sit on the plastic bed-edge trim. The tonneau would simply go on top of it.

Has anyone found a storage box that fits inside the bed extender when it's folded in and the tailgate's up? Sure, I could measure it out and do some research, but I'm being lazy.
