I think I am going to try the crux and a roku shoved in the back and wireless display my phone to the screen. I can't go the mhl route because Samsung likes to sell their smart tvs.

Arg. I just realized it is a hdmi male end on the crux. Would a female to female adapter allow me to use a roku/fire/chromate stick?

I'm thinking it should but will confirm when it all arrives.

I have just installed the Beat Sonic in my 2017 TRD Sport. It works great. The only issue is that it disables the factory AUX input. Has anyone found fix for it. I'm thinking it doesn't work because the AV wires take over when you daisy chain the wire harness.

With this adapter are you able to control the phone through the head unit? Or do you still need to use the phone ?

You have to use your phone as it mirrors your phone. Which fine when I play videos for my son in the car. I just ordered the hondo un-holey mount to go with this but I have yet to receive it. Ill post pics when its all set up.

As DJchris and I discovered, the difference between the crux and beatsonic hijack different inputs. I lost USB with crux and he lost aux with beatsonic. Should be able to get this adjusted.

I also noticed quite a price difference. I found the Crux at Walmart for $110-120.

Yeah, press the up button on the steering wheel for 5 seconds and have full access to the in motion options on the head unit.

So can you use the beatsonic while the vehicle is in motion?
Please post some pics of the parts that connect to the iphone.

Yes you can use the beatsonic while in motion is comes with a switch to turn it off and on in case you have GPS in your head unit. Once off your GPS will not work. Simply flip the switch and then your GPS will start working again.

Here is a link to the harness and everything you need to install for an iphone or a android (wireless)

IMG_20170315_173331104_HDR.jpg IIMG_20170315_173305544.jpg just did this it was cheep and I have everything I want. You can get tablets cheep added on you Verizon plan. And I bluetooth it to my sr's system so all sound comes threw car audio and have google maps YouTube. You name it being online. And I just flip it up for backup camera. I move it from one Tacoma to the other. I have my phone connected via bluetooth ear piece did not like when connected to radio because I work around the truck too much and it would connect and disconnect at wrong times and I would miss calls. Like important ones from the wife that you have to explain why you did not answer.

Ok, so I took this a step further. I installed the Crux unit but not to my iPhone... but to a 3rd gen (Rev A) Apple TV. Utilizing a compact 120v inverter and stashing the Apple TV in my glove box, I now have wireless airplay to my Tacoma stock entune screen. A couple small drawbacks...

1.) For whatever reason, when the Apple TV starts up and the home screen shows, it only displays a quarter of the screen. A quick unplug/replug of the HDMI cable fixes this.

2.) Certain streaming apps won't work from your iPhone to the Apple TV. Apps such as Netflix and YouTube handle airplay differently than mirrored apps. Basically your iPhone hands off the request to the TV. So unless you have a mobile hot spot in your vehicle, your Apple TV won't handle these types of streaming apps. The Rev A 3rd gen Apple TV and above allow airplay over Bluetooth from your iPhone so no wireless is needed (however, wireless needs to still be turned on on your iPhone).

For my needs (mainly Google maps and the in motion override feature), I'm super happy it all worked out. It's as clean as possible with no visible wires and my phone just sitting on the iQ charging pad mirroring away it's content WIRELESSLY on my stock screen.

Would you like pics of the setup or of it actually working?

Another quick update. With the Crux unit in my Tacoma, when using the in motion override, your stock GPS/Nav doesn't work properly. Basically, the in motion override tells the Entune unit you're not moving. So... your stock nav system will basically show you sitting in the last place it believes you were at before the in motion override was initiated. Simply reverting back to standard mode gets your entune GPS working again (simply hold down the up button on your steering wheel control for 3 seconds). Just a small side effect. For me, if I have the in motion enabled, it's because I want to use Google Maps instead of the stock entune nav system so it doesn't affect me at all. Very easy to get it back to stock mode while driving. Just a quick side note here.

And the Apple TV setup is still working like a champ! Pretty nifty.

Nice alternative but nowhere near as clean as the Crux setup. Having to mount a generic flip switch just isn't as nice as the override being tapped into a steering wheel control button. Also, the kit you linked doesn't come with the composite to hdmi adapter. The Crux kit comes with this adapter. I'm not sure how much the composite to hdmi adapter costs separately but I did buy the Crux kit for around $135 shipped. If the adapter costs much more than $60 by itself, you're getting close in costs.
