Has anyone cut open a YZZG2?

    Consensus on BITOG is that the 90915-YZZG1 oil filter is Purolator made.

    Apparently, 'D' in a filter part number means 'Denso'. Those filters are made in Thailand.

    'G1' means USA made, and again 'apparently' very much resemble Purolator filters down to the date code stamped on the end of the filter.

    How about the currently available 'G2" suffix? Does this also resemble a Purolator or did they go to a different maker?

    If you cut one open, you'll find there is a difference. One of our mods did that a few years ago..... Go with genuine Toyota filters.

    Thank's for the reply, but I'm not sure it tells me much.

    The
    $54 90915-YZZD1 Oil Filter 1 Case (QTY 10)
    90915-YZZD1, D3, G1, G2 are all 'Genuine Toyota Filters' and all will fit my 2TR-FE.

    The 'D' series has been established as Denso made, and the G1 is speculated to be Purolator contract made.

    There are writeups on all except the currently available G2.

    That's the info I seek. Is the 'G2' the same internally as the 'G1'? If it's different, what's the best guess on the maker?

    I have that information.

    It concerns the Denso made filters.

    Toyota also contracts to have filters made in the USA. They are not Denso made.

    Specific information sought is about the 90915-YZZG2.

    Uh huh. Most of the electric components, as it turned out, on my 1989 Dodge Dakota were made by Nippon-Denso also. Toyota owns most if not all of Denso.

    I did go back and look at the thread muffdiver referenced, a lot has been added to it since I last looked. Thanks, I'm not ungrateful for link. I need to sort through that to see if a G2 is in there someplace.

    The Japanese guy speaks better English than I speak Japanese, but we still can't communicate. What I got out of that is that there are 3 Toyota branded filters with the same part number built to 3 different patterns. Incredible. The middle one is the Denso-Thai, the others I personally can't identify.

    This may be a fools errand if you can't tell what's in the can by the part number.
