Are the pics you posted of the wires needed to work with on a radio with the premium and tech with nav package ?

I'm not sure weather they make those switches or not I haven't looked for them but they should make then they aren't some kind of super special switches.

The wires will most likely be the same no matter if you have P&T or not, but again I only speak from what I've read, I haven't tested on anything other than my own TRD OR without P&T

I do not know what you mean about " those switches "
You do have Nav. though as TDR OR's came with it. , right ? I am wondering if it effects a navigation destination set while driving . Have you tried it when using the nav. ?

I'll be doing the non-diode SPDT mod on my truck hopefully this weekend. Just a cleaner solution IMHO. I have P&T JBL. I expect the wires will be the same.

According to the FSM it looks like pin #1 next to the reverse signal input is +12VDC. I'll double check, but this may be super simple on one connector. I also have a 28-pin harness arriving tomorrow from @jshsltr

At present I have no blanks spots at the bottom but may relo the aux/USB -- I'll probably use that spot for something else such as light bar or similar.

A bit of searching came up with this thread giving some ideas for SPDT switches: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/finally-found-a-decent-spdt-switch-for-the-dashboard.183868/ Looks like a decent switch from sea-dog -- for those not familiar with this stuff you need a SPDT ON-ON. Translation: Single Pole, Double-Throw where it is On for each side.

I'm actually thinking I might use a SPDT On-Off-On switch. First position is "stock". Middle (second) disables the rear camera even when in Reverse. Third enables the rear camera while not in reverse. That'd be pretty cool and would be just a matter of the switch used.

    Here's a good SPDT On-Off-On, it uses a 20mm diameter hole so it's pretty small: http://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/e-switch/RR115C1100/EG4775-ND/2116254
    This is it's sibling, SPDT On-On: http://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/e-switch/RR113C1100/EG4774-ND/2116253

Anyone have the panel cutout dimensions for the Tacoma stock switches?

    Why disable while in reverse?

    Why not? :D

I probably wouldn't use it that often, but it could come in handy on occasion such as not interrupting my wife putting in a destination or something as I back out of a spot. Much as I like the camera, I do still retain the ability to turn my head and look out the back window.

I might have missed it , would this also allow putting in a destination in the nav in forward ? If so , Cool
I think my bass boat has a switch like this , Middle is off , top is rear light bottom is all running lights.

Even the tiny 1A diodes I use are rated at 1000V DC voltage blocking. If you reach that on a 12v source from your vehicle, you have huge problems that extend way beyond this install. Also, the diode is not used to prevent damage, but to prevent tail lights from coming on when using SPST pushbutton.

It just comes down to preference of switch type. Neither method is safer than the other.

No, for that you'll need to add a 2nd SPST On-Off switch into the Speed Sensor wire. Switched On everything works normal (can't input), switched to Off, the circuit is broken and you disable the lockout.

Thank you for explaining this, I was starting to confuse myself around the safety between these two methods

Yep, I'll do a write up on what I end up doing. Not intending to take away from anyone else, the more info out there the better. I'm a firm believer in sharing info.

The only real danger with these, assuming you don't completely f' up the wiring, is that you'll smash into something while you're messing with the no-longer-locked-out nav system or looking at your rear camera while flying down the Interstate.

Yes , but I think the most time it would be used is when the passenger is doing it . At least this is where I want it.

I like this idea much cleaner, as I've got the same harness coming and would keep from having to tap into the other factory radio harness for +12V.

I'll do some digging around too. Let us know if you confirm

One note... the pin#1 (fixed typo) that is designated IG and carries 12V when the ignition is on would be a *signaling* line not a power supply. So while it should work to trick the head unit into thinking you're in reverse, I wouldn't advise using it to power a lighted switch. It might work, but better to use a true power supply line to drive any switch lighting.

Totally true. If there was ever enough voltage to jump that Diode there are far more complicated issues going on with the truck. Maybe if someone was to switch their power train to a tesla powertrain.

Does anyone know if the switches sold by http://www.ch4x4.com/ need the diode. I thought about buying the switch blank that goes into the useless cubby hole on the left side of steering wheel and the switches sold by ch4x4

If doing the reverse camera anytime you will need a diode when using the SPST pushbutton switches.
