I came straight from the 1st gen to the 3rd gen and I know there's a lot of similarities between the 2nd gen and 3rd gen. With that said, I'm assuming most people who wheel at least temporarily remove the sway bar connections. Is this a fair assumption? Are there any solutions for a quick disconnect or do you simply have to remove the sway bar links and zip tie up the sway bar? On my 1st gen, with aftermarket suspension, I was able to do away with the sway bar completely. With the extra weight of the 2nd and 3rd gen, I would assume this would be a bad idea for normal, on-road driving.

The power wagon has auto disconnecting sway bar with push of a button. Guess it's too much to ask for Toyota to add technology like this to their PRO. Yet toyota will charge out the ass for them.

Guess so... anyways, anyone remove their sway bar/sway bar links during wheeling trips on their 3rd gens? Any tips?

There's also a member here who removed theirs and flipped their truck. Just saying.

For sure. I'm not planning on removing it permanently. I'm just wondering if anyone has come up with a quick solution. I know the 3rd generation is fairly new and I'm not sure if it shares the same linkage as the 2nd gen. Seeing if anyone here has anything creative they've done.

Good gracious... I must have amnesia... I already posted a thread asking about this back in December (https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/2016-sway-bar-quick-disconnect.466706/). I'm sorry. Mods, feel free to delete this. Also, after more research, it looks like the design hasn't really changed and simply removing the sway bar links and somehow securing the sway bar is really the only option. I guess to make this thread relevant, has anyone had any issues simply zip-tying the sway bar up temporarily while wheeling?

I have an Icon kit on mine. I ditched my sway bar. I like it better without. Even on road.

Made a good difference Off Road too I thought.

    :rofl::rofl:

And this 100% wouldn't have happened with the sway bar installed?

I could see that. When I first removed mine I went inside to grab a beer. While inside it flipped. Came out. Upside down.

Since then I've flipped it twice.

    3rd gen humor. Cute.

The dude flipped it driving carelessly while the sway bar had been removed. They work as intended.

No, you're not gonna flip your truck as its hunting for gears.

You are the one that's claimed some random dude flipped his truck because he removed the sway bar. I was just pointing out how stupid that sounds.

1st gen that thinks removing a sway causes truck to flip. Cute.

But on a more serious note. I'd be really interested to how it was proven that the removal of the sway bar combine with his driving caused it to flip. And if he would have the sway bar on, the truck would not have rolled.

Watch on those moose avoidance videos. The hilux almost rolled on that. It was bone stock.

I see what you are saying but just removing a sway bar isn't going to cause someone to have an accident they wouldn't if the sway bar was installed. I definitely wouldn't recommend a stock truck remove the sway bar. That's asking for trouble.

Perhaps for your welcome you should read more of this forum. While trying to find your well documented post, I found many thread where many people don't have sway bars. Sorry to spoil the story, none of them rolled their truck because the sway bar was removed.

    Here's a sample.

Also OP. I think the second or third thread linked here has a few links posted about disconnects. Like you found out, there aren't any. If you end up disconnecting make sure you tie it up with something that won't break or rattle loose. I'm sure zip ties will work if you add a few just to be safe. :)

Sadly the sway bar damaged the CV axles if you leave it in and just remove one link.

I hate falling over on ramps and can't imagine driving a truck without sway bars. I just wish it was easier to remove quickly for a weekend.

The 4runner trail has disconnecting sway bars but it is extremely expensive and limits modifications to the suspension.

Because the thread was deleted. He was asking for insurance advice or something like that and took a pic of it. The thread was full of just flaming the guy.

I'm not saying I don't condone taking it off for more articulation off road, plenty of people here have done it. In this instance he was driving a 3rd gen and you couldn't see the sway bar present as it's laying there on its side, waiting to die in its depressing state of agony.
