Ok I have been aware of all the different Calipers Toyota Made for the Tacoma's, 4Runners, Tundra's and so on and so forth. Whenever I revisit the question about up grading brakes on Tacoma's I forget everything. So I decided to make a Brake Bible for everyone. Here is a guideline for Swaps and Tech so we all know what to do at O'relly's or Autozone, as well what we need to make the best OE brake setup.

All Brake Calipers Have the same Caliper Mounting Dimensions. So in theory they could be all interchangeable, Just need Rotors and Pads to Match. Need to confirm fitment with steering, Knuckle, and Wheel Size.

So for 2005-2017 Tacoma's a Good Upgrade is the 2014-Present 4Runner 14WA Calipers and Rotors.

The calipers are slightly larger and have a upgraded 48mm Caliper Piston. 3mm Larger than the 13WG. The 14WA also has longer mounting ears to allow a larger rotor.

The 4Runner Rotor is 19mm Larger in Diameter and 3mm Thicker. All this makes for better heat management as well as greater surface area for better stopping distances. If anyone with a 2005-Present Tacoma would like to make the swap or wants to upgrade there brakes Please DM me or Email me at lowrangebrycen@gmail.com. I can provide the parts for the swap at a discount in exchange of knowledge and review.

I've been looking into swapping out the drums for rotors any idea what work is actually needed to do the swap. I'm aware of the parts but not sure how the swap goes into affect and how you mount the calipers and such

Great info, I was wondering if the 2nd gens and 13WL brakes were the same size rotors. This confirms it.

Yes this should work. The 14WA should fit on a second gen. But I want to find a guinea pig.

Do you have a first or second gen? No one makes a Disc Brake kit for the 2 Gen. I was looking into 2003-Present Rear 4Runner Disc Brakes. These also have internal e-brakes. In theory they should bolt up. I was looking at the backing plate bolt pattern and they seem the same. Question is will the axles work?

    A thing or two...
SOS Performance makes a rear drum to disc conversion for 2nd gen Tacomas using 4Runner rear brakes. http://sosperformance.com/products/rear-disc-conversion-with-parking-brake-slash-tr-dot-ps2-dot-ta16
They also make/sell StopTech big brake upgrades for the front.

Def an increase in size just by looking at it. Although not 6 piston the 4Runner calipers looks huge. Will compare them later.
