So i was looking up some info on the 2010 driveshaft recall when i came across an article...am i mistaken with this or is toyota talking about maybe checking out the "surging" issue that some taco owners complain about when stopped at a light, i have this problem and it does it quite often, here's the paragraph:

Separately, Toyota said in a letter to US lawmakers that it would investigate complaints on the Tacoma relating to "engine idle speed changes when the vehicle is stopped and high idle speed when the engine is cold."
Also to be probed were complaints on "cruise control downshifting behavior, engine speed changes when shifting (manual transmission) and lurching when a vehicle is coming to a stop."

    heres the full story:

I have an 09 and only notice it when im running the defroster or the A/C...didnt really think of it as much of an issue tho. I was more worried about the trans shifting pattern shit that was going on....but thanks to TW got that fixed. If i could give this site rep +1 i would....bahahahahahaha

Same here. Mine did it for probably 6-8 months when new, but can't remember the last time it happened.

Fascinating. If my truck had any of those issues I'd be seriously concerned.

Damn, was that necessary? Complainers or not....

Aside from the lurch that you're referring to....

The rpm's surge just while sitting still. I'll be sitting somewhere and I"ll watch my Scangauge. Every 30 seconds or less it goes up by 500rpms, and drop down 500rpms.... back-n-forth. THat 500rpm swing doesn't cause any lurching and hardly noticable if you don't have an aftermarket exhaust (in order to hear it). It's ABNORMAL. I've NEVER had any other AUtomatic vehicles idle like that.

I'm not complaining....but if its something they're looking into - GOOD!!!
It's about damn time they're starting to listen to the owners complaints.

Afterall, How many people on here complain about everything they've been recalling?

My 07 has the lurch. It was a super common complaint when I first got on the board... only really happens when the A/C is on. I've just gotten used to putting more pressure on the brake when I'm stopped.

I can tell you right now Toyota is examining all complaints that are submitted to the NHTSA. It doesn't mean that anything will come of it but Toyota needs to show that they are being very thorough.

Oh my god. She should stop driving that car immediately! 3k rpms could throw her into a terrible situation. I am not using sarcasm, either. I hope she has taken her vehicle in.

The little surge that most are complaining about is when the truck is stopped at a light there seems to be a slight surge. If the brake is lightly depressed the truck will move a little. I noticed this when I first bought the truck but don't really notice it anymore because I'm sure I am used to it by now. I am also used to depressing the brake a little harder when stopped.

I must have one of the good 09s. No lurching, no tailgate problems, no HVAC fan whine.

Did have the tranny lag TSB'd and the rear leaf TSB done preventatively.

Other than that, no problems. Made in Mexico, el oh el?

I said we should bring it in. But what will the dealer do if it only happens on occasion and doesnt throw any cel's ?? nada. I told her that she needs to be sure to keep her foot on the brake until the rev comes down. I wouldnt want her to let off the brake and her launch into an intersection because the engine connects to the drivetrain at 3k....like doing a nuetral drop. Scary stuff - either way she'll be trading the car in soon. Either for an audi suv or a new caddy srx.

I've owned several Toyota's in the past and there hasn't been any quality issues with any of those vehicles. So - in a sense - this IS a major big deal when you buy a Toyota for the reliability & quality they are known for but aren't necessarily gettin it (overall).

As for all the other manufacturers....when you're quality & reliabilty sucks to begin with, there's only one way you can go - and that's UPWARD (atleast, you'd think).

To see Toyota's rep go downhill while others go up....is very very very disappointing. Complaints or not.

Toyota owners know what Toyota is (or used to be) and why you see so many complaints. It's just not the way they used to be. And that's a shame.
