I myself would encourage you to cross Colorado off the list. I had an 06 and it puked the head at 70k (common issue) and they tried to refuse to fix it, then screwed me out of $1500

Fact of the matter is, everything you've mentioned in your specific situation/wants/needs has, in fact, been covered a hundred times, and discussed from every which direction. Do you really think you're the first guy to want more power out of the Tacoma? Jesus man. The same replies, the same arguments, the same crap time and time again.

... and that's just the from the third-gen forum, with "F150" in the thread title. Do a more generic search for anything to do with horsepower or torque complaints and you'll get 100x that amount. Plenty more identical threads in 2nd gen and General Automotive, too.

    got it thanks

I've had a a few people (one being a GM mechanic for about 7yrs) steer me away from the Colorado. I have my reservations about Chevy as a whole but it's more anecdotal than anything.

Don't confuse the current Colorado with the first gen Colorado, which was a card carrying member of the POS club.

The inline 5 engine (with accompanying cylinder head issues) was an answer to a question nobody asked.

The new ones are light years better, not that that would be a difficult bar to clear...

I drove GM only for 20 years and will never buy another after that. Not because it broke, because they lied to me repeatedly.

They shit the bed just the same in the 4 cylinder Colorados, which is what I had. I didn't plow, tow, or offroad with it either.

Thanks for that...this is something I really hadn't considered. I may head back to the dealership this weekend and try the MT before making any decisions or ruling out the Tacoma.[/QUOTE]

Sounds good man, I'm glad I was able to help you out in some way, good luck with everything and keep us posted as to what you do. Take care buddy.

OP, I feel I cant help you out a lot here. I owned a 2016 F150 XLT Sport Crew with the 2.7 and 302A package. It was a great truck, loved it. Felt cheap at times for the amount of money I paid. However, never had a single issue after 9500miles. It got totaled by an elderly person crossing lanes. I lost my ass on what the insurance gave me. I averaged about 19mpg with city driving. I am 5'6, It felt too big for me a lot of the time, if thats a thing. The resale is really whats get to me. If you look now, the 13-14 F150 FX4 sells for more with the same miles on it as a new 15 or 16 Sport . The new aluminum ones have the worst resale value besides Ram.

GM products are expensive and they dont take as much off, but have horrible little issues that over time add up, trust me I know. my dad has had 2 GMC Sierras.

I chose the Tacoma and will be picking mine up on Tuesday. I have the same concerns, issues, and thoughts as you. I will not be tackling hard core off road obstacles, it will be a city truck and some camping/hunting on the side. I am starting a family soon and the double cab is plenty big enough. The power should not be an issue. Trust me on that. So, I say go for the Taco. if you dont need to tow anything more than 6k#, then the taco is fine. Better resale, better maneuverability, better looks. Cheaper price. I say get the taco.

My perspective on this alone... Between the ages of say 5 and 14 you won't have issues with the kids in the back seat of a dual cab Tacoma. Sticking adults back there... that's a different story. If you're using a forward facing child seat in a double cab Tacoma then you or your passenger will have to get used to getting kicked all the time. That or you'll have to move your front seat forward. For anyone over 5'9" it's just enough to make it annoying. You'll never have that trouble in a crew cab F150.

I guess I may not by your average buyer. I own a used car dealership and rotate cars/trucks often.
