No such thing as "cool smart car". Wife keeps pressuring me to get something I can carry the kids in so we don't have to play musical vehicles all the time. Narrowed down to 1st gen doublecab, early 2nd gen doublecab, mid 2000's 4 runner or mid 2000's Landcruiser. Really only 4K difference between any of them. Cast your votes, support your argument.

Dang, all good choices. I'd probably go with the cruiser just because they are cool

4runner probably if its for a family ferry vehicle. or 2nd gen taco. 4runner has the dry storage but still fun and smaller then the cruiser. 2nd gen taco as its roomier then a 1st gen, the back seats in a 1st gen taco dcab are pretty useless. And its a taco so its a truck you can use..if you need a truck to use..

So my noise is the rear axle. No sign of diff oil leaking though..Sounds like the drive side area..its at least being transferred through that side..

Going to dump the oil and see what it looks like..

Biggest upside to the cruiser is I could throw a set of 33's on right away and do shocks later, but I'd feel like a desperate West Bank soccer mom.

4 runners do seem to be plentiful at reasonable prices. But I'd feel like a poor West Bank soccer mom.
The back seats of the 2nd gen tacos and 4th gen 4 runners don't seem like they have that much more space, but it's been a long time since I've sat in any of them.

Found a good dozen or so 4gen 4Runner candidates in Denver so it might be time to do some test drives when I'm down there next week. I realize a 4 runner is cheaper but I really wanted to get a 4place RZR this summer :annoyed:

Hey, Ben. So...i just sprayed the shit out of the inside of my door actuator with WD40(Partly out of frustration..)and...it worked.

My door opens smoother then ever. Doesn't lock anymore either.

May give that a shot and your hand might last longer :notsure:

You may be putting the cart before the horse. How do yo know it is not one of the bearings within the carrier?

Not sure how to answer this? Are you asking about toyota dealership cost?

Pretty easy after you fab a tool. Now that I've done it, and have a tool, I could do both sides in an afternoon.

I wouldn't even trust most dealers to do it after hearing of so many failing to do it correctly.

Well I know. But the whole handle opens much easier. Try it. Won't be able to get grease in there. Wd40 worked fine though.

Because I got under the truck with the diff fill plug out and spun the wheels. Still can from the out side by the wheel.

    Hmm...sooooo..

Can I come hang out next weekend? :D

    I'll gladly help.

In the time it takes to drive here you could easily make a tool though.

Im listening. Tell me the ways

I know you and Mr Dirty Pool had a discussion about this somewhere..

The latch. So there are two rods that go down to the latch. I sprayed the rods from the bottom and top, there is a metal guard there so you can't really see shit. But it helped SOOO much. Like enough im thinking of doing it the passenger side. It helped a lot.

Probably not. But it helped a ton!

If it doesn't last, i'll open it back up and use a graphite spray.

Read this page and the following one: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/squeaky-penguins-not-much-of-a-build-thread.261534/page-72

    A couple things to note:

    • Try to find round tubing with in inside diameter of around 3". You want something that will slip the ABS tone ring which is just under 3" diameter.
    • The placement of the inside retaining ring is imperative to a good seal, and will not necessarily be in the same place due to an updated seal
    • You don't need to reinstall the ABS rings
