diff drop?

I'm on my phone and its really hard and slow to search, so I'm sorry in advance. I know its been covered many times. I have had a 3" leveling kit on the truck with no problems, I am in the middle of putting ome 886's on and the guy at the offroad shop made it sound like I need a diff drop, now I didn't think I did unless I have vibrations, right? Thanks in advance

 

it would be smart to just do it. reason? it will lessen the angle which the cv shafts operate at and will likely make then last longer. the dif drop only drops it about an inch so you wont loose alot of clearance.
cheaper to do the drop than replace cv axles!!!

this is just my educated opinion

it actually only lowers it about a half an inch? doesn't seem to me that it would make that much of a difference?

The last two pictures shows the difference in angle of the CV with a before and after shot... I would do it.

Yeah I remember Chris4x4 saying it is not needed unless you get some vibes. I just did it just in case. That and the fact that its cheap and pretty easy to install.

 

I did it. 1 or 2 degrees can be a lot when speaking of various types of joints. Simple engineering fact, the closer they are to straight, the slower they will wear down. Who knows, 1 or 2 degrees could be 10,000 additional miles usage.

I put shims in back too after the lift.

 

Seeing that b4 and after made me kinda change my opinion!! I think I'll hafta do this!

 

So would the vibes be in driving in 2wd or 4wd? If 2wd then I have no vibes, and the truck wont be sitting as high as it is for much longer due to my bumper and winch being installed.

 

The camera angle is slightly different between the pictures and one picture is tilted which is why it looks like it's loaded. I straigtened them out with Photoshop so they look relatively the same horizontally, but it's still slightly different back to front. Look at the back wheel and the rubber sleeve that runs above the CV joint to see the difference. In the top picture, the rubber sleeve is hidden whereas in the bottom picture, it's exposed. you can see a difference, it's just not as dramatic. I have the diff drop on mine.

Check out the outer cv boot ribs between the picks, its still a noticeable difference between pics.
