MOD: Tablet mount above the center console.

I have a 2nd gen truck but I can't imagine that this would be much different for any of our trucks which is why I've placed this here instead of in the 2nd gen section in the hopes that it can help anyone that is looking for this type of solution.

The mount I'm using is a RAM Mounts product. I took the included 2.5" round base adapter out and replaced it with a double ball adapter and a short arm, and then added an appropriate sized X-Grip for the iPad.



Usually the mounting rod is between the seat and the center console but I hadn't put it back since the stereo install.



Plenty of room for accessing the controls as the iPad sits both high, and back enough to not be a concern.

$30 Panavise Custom InDash Mount for Toyota Tacoma '05-07

PanaVise bracket to the right of the climate controls is for the IBS battery manager.



I mounted the "no drill" bracket with the front left passenger seat bolt.



Once in, bend the internal aluminum rod to suit your needs.

NOTE: Not pictured is how I put the charging cable into the black plastic sleeve before the aluminum bar so that it would be safe from snags and tangles. I simply snaked the cable through the sleeve and then reinserted the aluminum bar.

How much did this set up cost you?

 

Minus the tablet I'd say about $120.00 for everything. I use Amazon to hunt for deals and save on shipping.

What exactly is the power source for this? (Sorry, I'm not seeing where the wire is going)

 

It's running to the power port area like you would to charge a phone. He doesn't have it pictured

That cable you see going over the lower dash console is actually for my dashcam. To power the iPad I used the Kimdrox dual USB power adapter.



It's hard wired into the power for the climate controls on my 2nd gen.

@BotoSlap808, I found a less expensive way to source the no-drill vehicle base so I edited the original post with those details.

Looking at all their stuff, thinking about this for the iPhone when I order all the stuff you did.



I'm just not sure how tight it fits, in the video they had to push down it get it in so I think I'll try it as well.

 

Stephan, that looks handy but even though my truck came with thirteen cup holders I don't think I want to surrender one like that. I created another mounting solution thread that may be of interest to you. I have less than five minutes time inside a 3rd gen cab so I don't know how helpful that solution will be for you.

@Welshy141, here are some more pictures that I took for you.



If you look close at the plastic sleeve you can see where I cut a small slice into it to let the cable exit without kinking it. I left some extra slack in the exposed cable as my wife didn't want her own A-pillar phone mount at first and would unplug the cable from the tablet so that she could charge her phone. Now she has her own A-pillar mount on the passenger side.



At the bottom this is all you can see of the cable. I am still tinkering with it but I think what I will do is have it snake under the seat a bit before turning back up to slip under the center console to make it invisible. I have Weathertech floor covers and they have a high lip edge so with factory carpet I imagine it would be more visible if you did it the same as I did in this picture.



I have the USB power adapter ports in the glove box for now. After about a month I'll bury them behind the glove box to clean up that space.

 

Yea I see you have one cup (coffee) holder behind the shifter.
I'm thinking there is room for phone mount in one and coffee in the other.


On your other thread I am tracking it and it is cool, 3rd gen guys have this no handle.

Sorry that I'm not fully tracking, but is the power supply the vehicle itself or a battery in the glove box?

I'd like to have mine wired to my Taco's battery like my toughbook mount in my work Explorer.

 

It is wired to the truck, in glove box to hide it, I'll let him tell where he hooked it up. You would have options on that. You cood hook it up to cigarette lighter, run it from the battery, be sure to add a fuse.

You could use one of those fuse box taps is a easy way.

I am looking for a way to be able to mount a tablet that is non-intrusive to passengers and also the radio/ac area and was curious about this PanaVise bracket. Do you think it would be sturdy enough to hold 13 oz? I am planning on picking up an Nvidia Shield K1 8" Tablet It will run Torque Pro and when I am bored be my entertainment center since it is deemed as a gaming tablet! I would be mounting a Ram ball to it with most likely a 2" Extension arm coupled to an X-Grip.
