@gpb sweeeeeet! That's good to know. I think I'll do mine tomorrow then. I was a little nervous reading when I first was going to do it. I figured I would probably end up jacking up my keys somehow and having to tow to the dealer! But it doesn't sound too bad.

I'll definitely take one of the tokens. I'll PM sometime tonight or tomorrow and we can figure something out.

Thanks for being the guinea pig!

Happy to help. I figured worst case it'd be a 4 mile tow to the dealer and fork over some $$$. So why not give it a go? :)

I just had my key successful programmed. The locksmith was dubious about this working, but he was willing to give it a try after explaining the cost would be $50 no matter the outcome. He used the 2015 IS250 Lexus and all is well. This is a very expensive way to not carry a key fob, but I detest keys and needed an additional spare.

Thanks to the OP for all the time and research!

FYI, the blank from the ebay link works fine; took it to a locksmith along with an existing key and they cut it for $20.

This is freaken amazing! I am a locksmith on Maui and I'm going to order this tomorrow from our supplier. I am able to cut and program the key. It's always good to know alternative keys to use and I thank you OP for figuring this out. I look forward to being able to just carry a phone and wallet now!

To try clarify some things. If the locksmith you call is using an MVP Pro, it'll likely cost him $10-30 to program the key(1 token). If he messes up, he will have to use another token. That's likely why you may get resistance from those that could, but won't do anything other than factory setups.

I use the T-Code Pro(non-token setup) so things like this is just a matter of usage of time. Toyotas are weird when it comes to smart keys. If you buy a used key, the truck will know that when trying to program. Some will allow you to add, others will force you to reset the immobilizer. Not sure why this is the case, but that's how ALL Toyota/Lexus smart access systems are. Add takes ~5mins to do, reset is ~16-20mins. If you have to reset, all keys you want to work need to be present otherwise it'll be erased after the system is closed.

This is exciting and I can't wait to get it done!

    Teri

Yes, I still have four tokens of the five I'd bought (min purchase). This isn't exactly a high demand item. LOL

I just wanted to ensure you'd hadn't contacted me and it not come through. No hurry, you've certainly got dibs on one. :)

I'm doing mine! (Used key) This is the most stressful 16 minutes I've had in a while.

Thankfully I found my spare key. It was wrapped in tin foil in my rtt. :anonymous:

Good luck. Yes, you MUST have every key you want it to recognize. The used key procedure wipes everything.

Tough to tell reading this thread.
Is the process simpler if I buy a new key?

Yes, should be just an add and maybe even find a locksmith that'll do it.

Not nearly as exciting though. :)

    Way easier.

But...I'm giving this one more try. If I doesn't work I'm selling a brand new (but programmed) key.

Mine won't complete the reset process.

Which TS version and were you telling it you had a 2026/17 Tacoma?

11.10.034 Worked for me, set it as 2016 Tacoma and seemed fine on the reset.

    Holy @&$# it finally worked.

Once you get past the stressful part of erasing your stock keys (and it actually works) it's really easy.

My problem burning through tokens was using a really old laptop with windows 7. So chrome didn't really work correctly. Once I ended up messing the captca up, no matter what I did it would say invalid token. After loading a fresh chrome page it worked fine.

I don't know what my error was the first time where it stopped at 2 minutes (thankfully the stock keys still worked). The second go worked fine and now I have a nice flat key in my wallet.

If anyone ends up with a used key I now have 4 tokens I can sell for 5 bucks each. :anonymous:

Big thanks to @gpb for the help, being the guinea pig, and selling me most of his codes.

Mine keeps asking for a serial number. I thought Toyota allowed us to use this for free?

Techstream? Not that I know of but it's reasonably easy to obtain a key for personal use. Have a look at the update I made to my post #160

Congrats. I've really enjoyed the convenience of my credit card smart key. Grab my wallet & phone and I'm good. Has the added benefit of reducing the chance of leaving my wallet at home. :)

I used an old T400 laptop onto which I'd installed Window 10, then use Windows 7 virtual machine from Microsoft with IE11 installed. I only use the VM for Techstream. The nice thing with VMs is the ability to snapshot a working install and be able to go back to it later if I should need. (FWIW I'd previously put an SSD in this laptop, so that probably helps it not be as slow as it would be with a HDD)

    See https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-edge/tools/vms/
