SO first off thanks for all the pics and posts you all do. I've seen some grate stuff. I am acquiring - Buying a new 2017 (I know is late in the game) targeting a Inferno double cab with 6ft bed. TRD Off Road. Not going all the way big with the HH option - nicer stereo/ premium tech.

I am in other forums for my 74 vw bus so I have a feel of how the forums work and I can handle the abuse, just like these Tacos!

Its my first truck and plan to add a cap to it. Possible a tent set up too.

An odd question is how necessary is the front skid plate? I don't plan any major off roading - I did that in my Older Jeep TJ years back.

Feel free to point me to threads I may have missed, I'm in New England and I'm excited to drive my own Taco ASAP!

PROS and CONS of the 2017 TRD Off road????

    thanks in advance!

Factory skid plate is really only aesthetic, not for much use.

Wouldn't buy one unless you like the look.

OR comes with a skid plate of sorts. As mentioned it's more for looks than doing much. As to need, that depends on where you go. I suspect that's sort of a "if you truly need one you'd already know the answer" question.

Pros and cons are all about whether it fits your needs and aesthetics. Sport and OR are same price for the same configs. Different folks like each one.

As for buying, see my post here: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...your-2017-tacoma.444691/page-17#post-13205880

Just traded my 16 sport dclb for a 17 OR dcsb. Suspension is different , I would suggest driving both.

I'll be posting a long bed cap for sale once I get photos loaded.

Black ARE Mx,carpet, fold down slider, frameless side windows,
    dual locks and yakama racks.

You could have it wrapped, I was going to get that done if I got another long bed.

The suspension on the sports is firmer and tuned for life on pavement. The OR has more give to it and it soaks up the bumps a lot better. The sports have a hitachi suspension and the OR comes with Bilsteins

I drove a 15 16 17 short and long beds. 17 long bed was stiff but I get the fact of the bilsteins. I also know it'll be something to get used to.

New question on running boards... whats good? I like the Preditor vers but wonder if the step part is shin killer and I'd bet it hangs up in the back woods. Also do any toyota brands rust? I have seen aluminum so no rust there but maybe the black coating peels?
Thanks yet again happy tobe referred to threads I may have missed.

Get a pair of rock sliders with inserts... they will protect the truck and not get hung up like the predators.
