Interior Lights or lack of.

I love my 2017,SR 4X4.
I was really surprised at the lack of Interior lighting,
no front or rear seat foot well lighting,
Has anyone added more interior lighting?
I have ordered a set of LED Lights from Amazon Canada that I will be installing.
I will post the details and pictures of my Install.

Can't find my pic but I added footwell lighting to my dome light circuit. I plan to add more to the rear footwell. Good luck OP

 

Switching out the interior lights on my '16 DCLB was my first "modification" as I found the lack of light in the cabin disappointing. I think you'll be very pleased with the LED's. When you do switch out your map lights and dome light make sure they are off before removing the OEM bulbs and installing the LED replacement. I can't remember if I was able to turn off the vanity lights or not while I switched over to the LED replacement.

I've seen some horror stories of ECU's getting fried from not knowing exactly where to tap for a power source. The price is right for the lights but I have zero experience with wiring

Yeah I've seen those stories too. I took into consideration the factory 7.5A dome circuit and my totalled up my LEDs a little shy of 3.4A of current draw. I've been in the 12V industry for 20 years now so I only use computer/air bag safe tools. Write ups and tapping wires blind are kind of a scary thought.

 

How did you get the map lights out? I can get enough finger in there to pull and pliers slip off.

Pull the entire upper console down. It's only 4 plastic pins holding it up, no screws. Access the bulbs from the top. Simple twist and they're out.

 

or get some tape on them.

Works pretty good.

 

Make a small tube out of tape so the sticky side is inside big enough to go over the bulb about 6 inches long. Put the open end over the bulb a press it on all around. Pull straight down and done. I used duct tape.

 

I believe it was a tan wire behind the fuse box. I'll try to find the wire diagram when I'm home.

 

What everyone else said below. That's exactly how I was able to pull the bulbs out. Here's a YT video on how to do the whole install. The part where he uses his fingers to pull the bulb out is where I utilized some clear packing tape around the bulb and gently pulled it out. I think you're in the same boat as me when it comes to man hands because I couldn't get my fingers in there like this guy in the video.

I started tugging a bit on the console, but there was not any play in it and I did not want to break it.

I have some silicone sealant drying on some pliers right now. I figured that would give it some grip. When it warms up a little I will go back out for another shot.

 

LOL you guys are working way too hard! Tape? Tubes? Silicone? No need!

Just use a broad bladed plastic interior trim tool and the console pops right off. I found that starting on the drivers side moving to the passenger side was the easiest method. Piece of cake!
