So lessons learned, if you're from Cali, you should know the Grapevine...I went through the Grapevine in 6th gear and cruise control at about 70. Only mod was Supercharger, stock tires and upgraded performance stuff. Watched boost going up but never pegged out. I'm like 90% sure thay accelerated my clutch burn out, but that would have happened later anyways. It was cool to see it make it though.

For those that don't know its like 10-20 miles of super uphill from Sea level to I wanna say 5k feet? And then back down. No clutch burn after the fact.

Yea I got that. I found a rubber grommet at SEARS, but its too small, I couldn't find the right size at home depot, but I don't like how it just sits there like a flap. I need to find the grommet from SEARS the right size as you can actually stuff the chrome indentations inside of it and its very secure.

This size is too small, i think 1 and 1/8 overall diameter, 1 and a 1/2 would cover it perfectly.

 

1-3/8" is the actual OD of the chrome ring. The 3/4" grommet from Home Depot has a 1-1/4" OD, but it covers the chrome ring enough so that you don't see the inner retaining features. If you trim off the bottom lip of the grommet it's pretty secure.

 

I just switched mine - I wanted something with a little more pop than the TRD knob.

Probably a long shot but do you know what diameter the chrome piece is where the boot attaches to it? Also, is the shift rod tapered all the way down or is the spot where the 3/4 o ring sits a consistent diameter? Reason I'm asking is I want to machine a steel piece with a set screw and get rid of the chrome piece all together and run the round trd shift knob. I would look at my own truck but it's still on order. Here's an idea of what Im going to machine.

I somehow thought you were asking for the measurement of the ID of the chrome ring, bur I realize now you are looking for the measurement of the bottom of the chrome ring where the boot is attached - that would take some disassembly, sorry.

As for the taper - the actual measurement of the shaft where I can push the ring down is about .700" and it's hard to tell if the taper continues. So considering this is something you are going to machine, I'd check all the dimensions once you get your truck.

Digging my truck so far. Haven't gone anywhere far yet. Hopefully soon. The engine and MT seem to loosen up over time. I'm getting about 16 MPG in the city and 19 on the highway. About as expected... odd it doesn't do better than that considering the redesign and wind tunnel work etc. Overall happy with the truck and I expect rising levels of stokeage as I get out on some adventures.

I'll be taking a 16 hr trip down to Texas this week, really curious to see what the mpg's are going to be during the drive and also the change at a lower elevation. Going from 7220' to less than 1000'

 

I did 3600 mile trip with my PRO. Got 21.75 MPG.

Both my 16 OR and my 17 PRO are how god intended real men to drive, MT

 

i asked cus that number... i thought you mentioned having MT somewhere, but i can't wrap my head around that number. i haven't even hit 18 yet, almost to 4400 miles.

 

My truck has 10,200 miles as of yesterday.

In my regular everyday driving, 17.89MPG is what I have reached best.

That was on my 3600 mile trip up to Montana.

 

i see. i went DFW to Houston and back, but i was on bigger tires then and the truck was under 2k miles, so that's not a fair comparison. I'm heading to Austin and Houston again Friday so I'll see how it goes. got the smaller tires, but went up to E tires so they're heavier, and i got a tonneau as well, so hoping for at least 18. first oil change tomorrow, too.

 

Mine had bone stock tires. No tonneau.

I am going narrower and lighter tires, and switching out to 245/255 section width. Also added LEER camper.

 

yeah the tires may be our big difference. I'm on 265.65.17 ST Maxx. love'em, but E tire heavy.

 

I have no need for heavy tires. I only go to the mall
