Curious to see if this is just standard on the Tacoma.. If you're facing down a hill, and you put your truck in reverse and let off the brakes.. does your taco roll forward and then stall with a transmission oil temperature error?

If you get a chance to test it out, let me know.. Starts right up again, doesn't persist or anything.. I've seen a couple of comments about CPS issues, and I've seen speculation about automatics doing this as a safety feature or something.. I'm just interested in seeing if it's a standard behavior.

    Cheers!
    --

Update.. So uh... From the 2016/2017 owner's manual:

When shifting the shift lever ●On vehicles with an automatic transmission, do not let the vehicle roll backward while the shift lever is in a driving position, or roll forward while the shift lever is in R. Doing so may cause the engine to stall or lead to poor brake and steering performance, resulting in an accident or damage to the vehicle.

    negative.
but if I change gears on a hill quick and try and accelerate I get an alarm bell since I have the delayed shift thing thats supposed to be fixed by TSB, just haven't had it done yet.

I think WebMD is right...your truck has cancer, transmission cancer

Without a doubt this isn't a typical circumstance.. Normal driving, you'd get on the gas pretty quick and move backwards if you wanted to back up a hill. This isn't about that. Actually, all of my cars have always been standard, and I was randomly wondering what happens in the truck, and so I tested it out.. A friend suggested it could actually be a problem, though, so then I decided to ask other owners.

3rd gens seem to have a problem with inclines/declines. Possibly oil pressure related.

I thought my SR5 has downhill brake assist. If I'm on a uphill in drive, it does not roll backwards for about 3 seconds then it slowly scoots backwards but no stalling. I have not tried to reverse up a hill.

Well, opposite on my 2nd gen. I have a steep driveway. Ive stopped going up it, let my foot off the brake to coast backwards, and if you coast too fast backwards truck will stall.
