@G.T. What kind of mileage do you get with the 35s and the 4.56 gears? I'm wondering what 4.56 gears would yield (fuel economy) on a 33.5" tire setup.

For myself, the math seems to say, "Get 4.10 gears" but I see a lot of people commenting that 4.56 is really the way to go. I can't say I've ever felt the truck needed more power when in 4LO and crawling. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have the better mechanical advantage for hooning and crawling, but Colorado is about 800 miles from me so highway driving is important whether or not I like to admit it.

Ideally 4.56's and 4.88's arent the way to go with 35's, in a perfect world it would be 4.10's and a crawl box. You'd still have somewhat decent mpgs and be have close to stock gear ratio's but on the trail the crawl box would make up for the high 4.10's and give you all the low end you need.... But it way cheaper and easier to just regear to 4.56's or 4.88's then spend the extra 2+ grand on the crawl box and all the misc pieces to go with it...

ah this thread is what has been plaguing me the last couple of weeks. I am on the track of 4.88 due to having an Auto. Currently running 285's and undecided on 35s in the future. Sounds like people still recommend 4.88 for the Auto and 4.56 for the Manual.

I would like to see somebody do a shaved 14bolt (with 6lug) setup :D figure axle at 200 bucks, lug conversion for another 400, disk brakes for another 200, add in a ARB for 900. and you have a bomb proof axle :D and stronger then a dana 60

He's done a few now. Here is his first thread and from it you can see his profile that links to some others.

Yes, it's a JDM HZJ77 with the 1HZ, super fun little machine.

Overkill unless you plan to run 40+ inch tires. And that d60 isn't as cheap as you might think at first glance .. I think @Boomtacoma01 is prob over $5k in his

if talking rear axles, they arnt to bad in price. my numbers for a 14bolt are close. I did a 60 in the front of the above 40, and bare axle was 300 bucks (bj 60) added another 800 for the ARB, and 200 for the custom long side shaft (shortened the 60) then another 200 in high steer. :D

Excited to see you get your truck up and running again. It was a sad time watching @NEWBIETACO towing you to the tow truck at Barnwell. Hope to see that beast tearing up that trails at Jambo!
