Reason #2: The biggest problem in my opinion. The streets are paved, but the overall layout of the streets in Doylestown was designed when people were commuting to work on horseback or in horse-drawn carriages. I drive a Tacoma, which actually isn't that big but still not a small vehicle. Almost everyone in Doylestown drives SUVs, minivans, full-size pickups, and luxury cars. Most of the public parking right in town is on already narrow 2-lane streets. This is a big enough problem without inexperienced teen drivers taking mommy and daddy's $70,000 Tahoe out for a night on the town.

Doylestown is considered a suburb of Philadelphia, and what this all translates to is the type of traffic and overcrowding that causes people to leave cities like Philly and move to suburban towns like Doylestown.

Reason #3: Only someone with Asperger's and a keen interest in HVAC would notice this, but it's still worth considering. Take a close look at the outdoor central A/C unit of any old building that was built without central air and then retrofitted later. A/C systems in Doylestown tend to be installed for the sole purpose of simply making it work, and not giving any thought to performance, efficiency, or even access to the unit if it needs service in the future.

Reason #4: I work at a very popular bar/music venue in Doylestown, and I think there are way too many bars. Someone told me that the exact number of establishments with liquor licenses in Doylestown Borough is 29. The PALCB will not issue anymore liquor licenses within the Borough limit, and I think that when a bar closes for whatever reason, a new one should not be allowed to open in it's place. This process should be repeated until there are maybe 15-20 bars, and then sit back and see how things are.

Having almost 30 bars in such a small area is not a problem in itself, but even in safe towns with great police presence and relatively little crime, even the nicest bar will always bring drunken douchebaggery. Multiply that drunken douchebaggery by 29. At a minimum, most offenses in the Borough are at least indirectly related to alcohol.

Post that isn't really relevant to TW or about Tacomas, meeting Tacoma owners, off-roading, etc...but free world and forum, just my 2 cents.

Well, I want this one to stay. An unusually high amount of day-to-day bullshit is something I encounter in Doylestown Borough on an almost daily basis.

If I didn't have a good-paying job here, I would avoid the area like the plague in my truck and take an Uber or ride with someone else whenever I wanted to town purely for fun. Both of my parents have been driving for about 40 years and say no place they've seen that is similar to Doylestown has this kind of overcrowding. They strongly dislike driving in the Borough and avoid it whenever possible. A lot of coworkers feels the same way...

I would like the opinion of other people, and the Tacoma community seems like a good place to start.

Probably a more relevant and better place/forum to write about your town and issues you see. But you do you man.

Someone who owned a 2.4L Tacoma told me that the 2.7L is a good engine, but nothing like the 2.4L in terms of longevity. Highest mileage I've ever seen on a 2nd gen 2.7L with the original engine is 300K. My truck is rigorously maintained (regular oil changes, etc). I intend on holding onto my Taco indefinitely, but I predict that I will have a nicer and newer vehicle and my Tacoma will be relegated to "spare vehicle" status before I get anywhere close to 300K.

I'm thinking my Tacoma will have somewhere in the range of 150K-200K when I semi-retire it. My parents have never had a vehicle past 135K miles. Do I need to worry about something major happening under the hood of my truck after 150K, something that can't simply be fixed with a day in the shop?

Honestly the drunk guy hitting me and then lying about it is what prompted me to invest in dashcams for my truck, but the thing I am really afraid of is that some Darwin award recipient will either jaywalk in front of my truck when I genuinely do have the right of way and say it was their right of way, or just blindly run in front of my truck, and I don't be able to stop in time. I believe that there is a difference between having empathy and taking responsibility, meaning that if I hit a pedestrian as a result of their own stupidity, I will feel awful, but I refuse to be legally or financially responsible. I'm not even worried about damage to my truck. I just want the guarantee that footage from dashcams will release me from any responsibility and allow me to tell a pedestrian who comes into contact with my truck as a result of their own stupidity to take a hike...

Is this possible? Perhaps a second battery dedicated exclusively to stereo and dashcams so the primary battery won't die? My dashcams can run for about 30 minutes on battery power. I work at a bar and am paranoid about drunks damaging my truck. I've had two occasions where I've encountered people casually leaning against my truck while it's parked outside my work and told them not to touch. I don't want to think about what might happen that I don't see... Heck even in parking lots... Somebody did almost $445 in damage to my dad's pilot in the Wells Fargo Center parking lot and fled. There's no honor...

Anyway, what I presently do on busy nights at the bar is put my spare key the ignition and put both cameras on blackout mode. The problem here is not bypassing the ignition so the power outlets run without the key, but rather that I don't want to come back to my truck after midnight in the bar parking lot and find a dead battery, or coming out to my truck after a car show on a hot day and finding a dead battery...

Can I add a second battery? I think there's enough room under the hood.

My truck replaced a 1996 Nissan Pathfinder, and about 12 years ago my dad spent a small fortune getting some suspension parts replaced (on the Pathfinder; Tacoma has all original parts). What is the service life of stock suspension in a 2nd gen 2WD regular cab if the truck has low miles and isn't abused?

If and when I do need new struts/shocks/etc, should I get some aftermarket ones instead of Toyota OEM? Would this improve the ride?

I run 1 dashcam (an older PowerUCC Panorama II) 24/7 off a constant hot that I grabbed from the interior lighting circuit. Admittedly, I should have a box in there that cuts power when the voltage gets too low, but I'll go 5 days without driving and have no problem. If your battery is on the edge of death, this will demonstrate it to you, though.

If your cam(s) depend on the cigarette lighter, you can do the anytime power relay mod.

Where I park does not matter... People seem to think that a parked pickup truck is their personal trashcan...

I refuse to get a hard cap/camper shell because I just don't like the way they look. I know they have soft rollup covers, and I was wondering if anybody could recommend a specific brand/model...

Camp out near your truck and see who is putting the trash in the back. Staple said trash to baseball bat and comince to swing away with such said trash.
