Hi all. New here. I've been lurking the past 6 months or so as I save up for my down payment. The time is near though (a couple months I should have it all together) and last night I went to my local dealership to test drive a 2017 TRD sport w/ tech package.

But it also bought up a couple questions for me. I want the TRD sport DCSB w/ manual transmission. Dealer informed me that this is not available with the tech package. So now im left wondering, what exactly is included with the "tech package"? Are the speakers better? Is it the HD touch screen head unit?

Or does the HD touch screen and better speakers come with the non tech package and the tech package just adds some bullshit like navigation and weather?

They probably just said that in hopes youd settle for what they had on the lot. You can order it however you want it, as many others have and will continue to do. You'll just have to wait a bit for it - unless you get lucky and there is one they can allocate to the dealer from elsewhere.

I've never purchased a new truck before. I think these guys were just talking BS to me because they also mentioned that you can't get tacos built to order? They were only looking at allocating from dealers. I haven't made any moves yet, just wanted to pick their brain. Sounds like they straight up lied.

Grab the brochure PDF from Toyota.com -- it'll have lots of detail on what's available with what.

Here in the States you definitely can get built to order, although dealers will try to find a match within existing allocations since it puts the money in their hands that much faster.

That sounds worth it for the heated seats and moonroof alone.

Premium & Technology Package (Double Cab) includes:
    • Front dual zone automatic climate control
    • Heated front seats
    • Rear parking sonar
    • Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) (replaces chrome rear bumper with color-keyed on Off-Road grade)
    • Rear Cross-Traffic Alert (RCTA),
    • Projector-beam headlights with LED Daytime Running Lights (DRL) with auto on/off feature
    • Power tilt/slide moonroof
    • V6 Tow Package
    • 50 State Emissions

I think they were totally bullshitting you and trying to get to you to jump at what's on their lot myself. Unless you're in Canada it sounds like.

My questions have been answered. I realize now the answer was right in front of me on the Toyota Website... my bad :)

The dealers just confused me. I know better now, and when i go back I will say that I want a Tacoma BUILT not ordered from another dealer.

    Thank you all

and the color matched bumper. Chrome looks a little tacky imo.

the tech package is worth it if you ask me.

To OP, I would agree that the dealer is probably just trying to discourage you from buying (ordering) the vehicle you want. Don't let them. This is a huge expense, make sure it's exactly what you're looking for.

Just accept that you may have to place a special order, and could be waiting months for it to arrive. Especially if you want it in manual. Very few of the trucks coming off the line are MT.

I can tell you from someone who waited four months for theirs to arrive, it's worth it.

It's interesting that you wanted the tech package even though you didn't know what was in it lol. Why did you want it?

I ordered my Off Road Manual with P&T as I really wanted the Heated Seats and Sunroof. Just be prepared to wait, I ordered in December and its not due in at the dealer till the end of March.

The one I drove on the lot was with the tech package. Then when I said I wanted a MT, they told me I could'nt have both.

That doesn't answer the question. You were ready to pay over 2k for something without even knowing what is in it lol

You should also know that you will be unable to get the JBL sound system with the MT. You can get the tech package, but not the upgraded sound (tech+JBL). There is no reason for this other than Toyota's silliness.

Same with push button start and proximity key, cannot get them with MT.

I found out about this AFTER I had placed my order, but went through with it anyway and I'm okay with it. Just want a new buyer to be educated.
