I know @surfandturf just did it recently because he posted info about it in our CT BS thread.

 

Lots of us have done it. You don't leak very much. 1/4 a quart at most. It just drips out

 

Guess I'll drain the fluid and replace it while I'm on it since I don't have OEM fluid to top it off. I don't want to mix and match.

 

Which pre do you take?

 

Good idea. When was the last time you changed all the fluids?

 

I use the optimum nutrition ammino powder as a pre since it's got a metric fuckton of caffeine.

 

A full replacement of the front diff is1.5 liters. You probably won't find 75w-85 in an autoparts store. I went with

$29 75w-90 Synthetic Gear Lube - 1 Quart (Pack of 2)

75w-90 synthetic

 

I haven't had any issues finding that weight at my local Vatozone That being said,

75W-90 I'm sure is just fine for what it's doing.

I have Motul at the shop at gear 300 75w90 which is actually what the dealership told me to put in. So I guess that will do. I guess I'll have to drop the skids to do this....

It was apparently done at 100k before 8 bought the truck but all I have is the word of the dealership. I'm at 130k now.

I'd just do them all then, doesn't hurt and not very expensive to do.

 

I was going to flush my power steering today since it's so nice, but it's windy af...

 

I'll have to do the diff fluid for now as I'm going to be tight on time.

 

The older 2nd gens had Dino fluids from the factory so their service interval was 30k miles anyways. Not a bad idea to do them. Easy and relatively cheap, just a little time consuming due to using one of those stupid little bottle pump things. Also, that shit smells terrible.

AutoZone carries Mobil 1 gear oil. I ended up having to go to 2 cause the first didn't have enough for me to do everything on my FJ this past summer.

 

Might as well do the tcase too since you're right there anyways....

 

Hm.. 3L for the transmission fluid service but 10.9 dry capacity. Should I just have it pumped/flushed properly?

 

11 litres for the auto tranny? The manual takes 2 quarts.

 

That's just to drop the pan and refill, not the exchange all the fluid. You can do the whole exchange yourself, it's just time consuming. Last time I had the wife's T4R at the dealer I asked about a trans flush and it runs around $300 to do the actual flush. Dropping the pan and replacing 3l of fluid was cheap but doesn't really do anything
