That's kind of what I'm thinking. My friends exhaust shop is pretty talented. I'm curious to know if the majority of the power increase comes from the removal of the cats or from less evasive "turn" in the new pipe. Removing the cats would be pretty easy for my guys but I'm not sure about the split in the pipe

only thing that is really appealing to me about the URD one is that its stainless steel and TIG welded.
Most fab shops will not be using stainless and their welds would be MIG.

Yeah those are two pretty nice qualities! I asked URD on their FB page if there is any power gains and/or proof and they won't respond...

Also, don't forget it's all mandrel bent piping too. It would be pretty easy to do a custom y-pipe (just look at the the exhaust re-route thread)... But if you wanted a custom y-pipe that was thick 304 stainless, which removes cats, add O2 bungs, is TIG welded, and Mandrel bent... that's probably going to cost over $500. And that's if you can find a shop that even has a Mandrel bender. Houston has one, and they wanted $1200 for a custom exhaust; I know because I called and asked before ordering all my parts.

If you will look at the 5th dyno on this link you will see a 28-29HP gain with the URD y pipe on the 4.0 engine from a TW member. The gains should be similiar on the 3.5 since they primarily come from removing the cats and secondarily from the reroute.

edit, sorry for forgetting the link.

    1) There are no instructions... Zero.

    2) I already knew what the "solution" was because I've been following this thread since day one.

    3) skyking and his master mechanic friend had to unbolt the transmission from the cross-member and jack it up to even get the pipe in originally... in lieu of doing something like that, and keeping everything loose, as I knew to do, neither I nor the qualified mechanic doing my exhaust, could get the driver side flange to line up, without some kind of trimming. As I said it really wasn't a big deal, because it was the small peice of pipe that went into the larger peice... Trimmed it, and everything was gravey, bolted up the two flanges just fine. Only problem was now the y-pipe when lifted off the cross-member (and at a level angle) was at a height where the flange peice was hitting the middle cross-member. Even skyking had issues after loosing everything if I remember correctly, think he said they had to use a crow bar or pry bar to force the pipe up off the cross-member while tightening everything, after the fact.

Yes, it will work fine with the stock exhaust. My TRD Pro cat back has the exact same connection as the stock exhaust.

No, wouldn't recommend it. It's a thousand times easier to see what you're doing when it up on a rack and you can stand up and look.

Laying on your back and trying to do this.... Hell to the no.

Does this effect the low end torque at all? Curious as how this interacts with the 3.5 and still waiting on the power extractors they are working on. Haven't seen a recent update on those. Basically I'm holding out for the aftermarket to increase as well as other people's experiences.

Just ordered the Vibrant Ultra Quite resonator. Will be replacing the bottle/performance resonator I put on... It's just to loud in the cab at 3k - 4k RPM. Even with a resonator added it's loud. Don't know if it's the y-pipe, 3" Magnaflow or the combination, but man it's got a grumble to it. Use to not bother me as much, and if I was in highschool still, I'm sure I'd be in love, but taste change I guess.... I don't want it to be stock quite, I didn't put all that crap on it to not hear and appreciate it, but damn...
Anyway, ultra quiet resonator should help, I hope.

You may want to just add some sound deadening to quiet down the interior. It will also make your stereo sound better as well. This is what I am going to add soon after I finish the project I am currently on. The link is below.

Nope. Truck reads the O2 sensors from the first set of bungs behind the first set of cats. The y-pipe also has O2 bungs built in to connect the second set of sensors... Not sure what they're even there for, but no codes thrown.

Noise problem solved. Swapped out to the Vibrant Ultra Quite resonator this afternoon... I'd say it cut the sound level by 40%. Really made the 3k - 4k RPM much nicer to listen to, without quieting the lower RPM (1k - 2k) to much. Just what I was looking for.

Here's a quick video clip I did on the way home from the gym:

    https://youtu.be/bnwGg2bp5f8

    Here's a video I did of a cold start.

    https://youtu.be/kYWFoIdDSjI

Sorry, had to use my cell phone. Best to listen to the videos in the truck via bluetooth, of with ear buds. Hard to get the bass/deep tones on crappy computer speakers or phone.
