Base long closed down even 40 years back. Main store in town has expanded but otherwise as you described was how it was back then. A few fly in hunt camps at the outskirts but otherwise no real work except for the girls waiting tables.

Some of these northern towns are interesting to say the least. Other than some govt money or natural resource "harvesting" there is not much for work in some of these places. We did work all over the north and some places seemed like a paradise in summer and winter made you wonder why they didn't just pack up and leave. I would love to be able to support myself up there but I think I will just visit at least until I retire.

You sound like you know the lifestyle to a tee. Long and lonely winter. Wouldn't want to be any other place in the high heat of summer! Lots of great memories up there

Well, was making some headway today but warped my main base slightly. Have to re weld it with square tube instead of flat bar. Better it happened now than while on the road with a fridge on it.

Other than pretty much done

that's awesome man! how big is the fridge? most pics I see the fridges are fairly small and could only hold like a 12 pack haha but from ur pics the slide looks like it could hold a decent sized cooler haha this makes me curious what kind of set up you have inside ur cap haha assuming that's where it will be mounted

It will be mounted in the back of the truck.
Had it like this but it wasnt very great to get at and it wasn't great to pack stuff around it.

The fridge is a pretty decent size. 45 quarts (I think I am remembering that correctly) can hold like 40-50 cans of pop (used it as a mini fridge during thanksgiving)

I ran the fridge for four days strictly on solar. But I will be running a ctek dual 250s which is a solar controller and a dc-dc charger. Should help keep everything topped up. Plus I have the inverter and lights going on as well lol. Should mking camping much better

Lol yeah. I was running it off the solar charged battery (100watt panel could keep me going for 4 days until I unplugged it).

Now I'm going to be running a dc to dc charger that has a built in solar controller. The controller Will charge the make sure the starter and house battery are charged either from the alternator or the solar panel

that's pretty wicked dude! ive got so many big plans for the truck haha but I think most of them or to do just for the sake of doing then because I actually need to hahaha I would love to have a dual battery set up but that's way down the road for me lol I was looking at these set ups. this guy seems to know his shit and also build quality product. plus if u need custom cables made he can hook u up haha

I never really wanted a dual battery kit. Figured with the extra big battery I have I would be fine. But with the fridge now I'm kinda stuck. Need the fridge because the last trip, ice was a pain and for the cost of a decent sized cooler I got the fridge instead. No brainer on that end.

As for the dual battery kit, they get expensive, but really it's a no brainer.

You need a isolater, big fuses or breakers, and batteries. Cables can be made with a crimper (did that for my winch install). The kit you posted isn't too bad, but you can price it together for cheaper especially with our dollar.

I looked at Croms setup and instead of an isolater (isolates which battery gets charged by the alternator and also isolates batteries to keep them from getting drained) he uses a smart dc-dc charger. It's easier to wire, a lot less big wire, and the built in solar controller is a bonus. It's kinda pricey though. But it actually charged the battery to the recommended charge and doesn't require you to upgrade the alternator.
