I have quite old console design with cup holder under vents and hazard lights switch left of vents. Really there is no really good place to keep the phone. Finally I went into simply and really cheep solution - the clip on suction cup.

The clip was extremely cheep (if I remember right it was 10PLN that is $2.50) and actually holds Samsung S4 and S6 very well.

This is good thing that windshield in 1st gen is so close to dash that the phone is within the easy reach (can't use it in 5th gen 4Runner). I took a picture from the driver seat and because the phone is low just above the dash it does obstruct the view.

I believe you are correct. For me, at least.

I have this one as well. Best one ever. Easy on and off and super cheap. I have a fleet of snow equipment and every machine has these.

IMHO, the best cell-phone holder is your glove box.
Turn the damn thing off and put it there. Focus on your driving. Stay alive.

Actually 95% of my phone usage in a car is GPS navigation - it wouldn't do any good in a glove box :). The remaining 5% is sending a music to car stereo. Hardly can call it "a phone".:D

I have this Ram mount, but with their suction cup instead. I put it above the head unit in the center of the dash and works great. I'll post a pic later.

Exactly how I use mine, except instead of music it's either a podcast or an audio book.

Yea you should mount your radio in the glove box too. Don't be pressing any buttons! Disconnect your steering wheel controls. You don't need to be moving you hands from the 10 and 2 position. All A/C controls should be automatically disabled when vehicle is in motion. Make all your adjustments before take off.

    Whatever, dude...

I do Uber part time and I bought this same one at a store called Five Below and it was only $5! (not below)... I have one of those rings on the back of the phone and other holders cannot hold the phone b/c that ring pushes the phone forward. This cheap little thing has a "sticky" suction cup- it's like a gel almost and it's steady as a rock!

I bought one from this guy. The best $35 I have ever spent. The thing is a perfect fit with my phone case. The guy is good and I had it in about 3-4 days. I am very impressed. You guys should totally get with this guy and have him make you one.

I have one of these on my motorcycle. I'm pretty happy with it...super stable.

For the truck I have one of these suctioned to the windshield for the phone and second suctioned to the dash for my back up camera. Funny thing is I mounted the back up camera to it as a temporary mount 3 years ago.

He makes phone holders with his printer- maybe he could make a custom one for your needs?
BTW- I didn't notice it was for 1st gens... my bad.

So, this is what I use:

I have this under the inner front pass. seat bolt. There are different heights you can buy- I like not having it in my line of sight- I don't text while driving- and it's out of the way. Even though this is in my 2nd Gen, I used to have a 1st gen, and as I recall, there are bolts holding the seat tracks to the floors in those trucks too... ;)

I have one of these in my 2007 Rav4. Works good and I would recommend it as well.

The part that has 4 prongs goign to insert into the vents unscrews and you can uses it as basking to fasten better somewhere else. Mounted directly left of the 2 main air vents. Looks very slick and way better than a claw style holder. The magnet is the way to go. I think someone on this thread did the same.

I had a different style that mounted to the vents. I used it once in my son's 4Runner. Every time I went over a bump it pulled the vent out of the dash.
