Today is the one year anniversary of owning my 2016 TRD Sport (AC, 2WD, Tech Package, tow package, MGM) and I am pleased to say that now with 4,003 miles on the odometer I have had none of the mechanical problems that I have read so much about on this forum.

Coming from a 1989 4x4 extended cab I don’t think I will ever get completely used to the new larger body size but I am happy to say that I am much more comfortable with it now. I love the interior and all its creature comforts. The premium audio sounds great. The steering wheel has the best feel of any vehicle I have owned.

The shift lag is an area that needs improving in future models, however I never expected this truck to be a sports car and I have never felt that I needed more power. For the times that I’ve needed or wanted more instantaneous response the ETC button certainly does the trick.

To be fair and honest my mileage has been terrible. I’ve tracked it since day one and have averaged 16-17 for the year, however, 95% of my driving is all done within my smaller city and 7 mile round trip commute through stop lights and stop signs so I knew I’d be on the very low end of mileage. I simply have not had many highway miles yet or even much larger, open city streets to balance things out. The one trip I did take to the mountains got much better mileage on the open road.

It’s hauling capability has been great. 25 sixty pound bags of concrete (1500 lbs) and it doesn’t even wince. While I mentioned I don’t like the overall larger size I must say that I love that larger bed. Go figure.

I have only done two mods. I removed the front chrome braces and followed @3dBdown method to paint the grill a satin black and the shroud matching factory MGM. I also replace the stereo knobs with @wileydavis quality product for far superior control.

So I just wanted to share that even after a full year I think the truck is great and would recommend one to anyone who is in the market for a solid truck.

True, my wife now has a Prius V and we take that when we leave town to visit relatives/friends which is not often.

My truck gets me to and from work and everywhere else I go. Most things I need are within a few miles of home.

Glad you are happy with your Tacoma! It looks great!

Have you tried using s4 when in town? I have found a 1-2 mpg gain when using it in town. Maybe it will help your mileage. Mine is 4x4, an access cab also, and I get 18-19 in town with s4.
