yeah I carry a single 7/8 just to connect my tree strap to the block. and I have two beast blocks. and 10k would need 20k, but really you are looking at the weight you are pulling. 7k truck is 14k on a 180 pull, less if you reduce the angle but that is no longer used for reducing winch load (unless you are using three snatch blocks to reduce even more if you were say pulling multiple vehicles tied together).

    Fun times!

Overland Journal just did a writeup on a lot of gear. The ARB stuff is surprisingly great even being from china. Also warn stuff being from china. They loved the bubba soft shackles so much they used them for all the rigging and when stuff failed the shackled didnt and they tested well over their ratings.

To my surprise, some of my made in USA gear failed before stated ratings.

So I now use all bubba kinetic ropes (20 and 30 to equal 50), and a nice long ARB tree strap. I have some shorty straps for people without points, but will use them under their ratings because the companies tree strap failed early in the testing.

For the blocks, the ARB and WARN did well. I have the big red WARN they didn't test because it is too much, and a very nice Crosby Mckissick 419 that is also too much.

All my shackles are crosby, my soft shackles bubba.

beware with all the companies coming out with soft shackles. if too many make them some will be shit to just be cheaper than bubba.

yeah my brother poopooed on all my perdy china shackles one day when he visited. he is a ironworker dealing with rigging all day and made me move to crosby which are the cheapest of the Union approved.

my snatch block was a joke for a long time, and when reading up on a replacement I found out most of my gear was garbage and would only survive a real recovery if I was lucky.

I wouldn't throw my Chinese shit away(necessarily), but the company did because we lift heavy stuff with cranes, and overhead work is some serious shit. But, as mentioned, if you have a stout shackle that is rated 7 tons, you're probably gonna be o.k. But, if you're buying new shit, why not get the good stuff. Made in the U.S.A.

You mean like every other thread on TW?

Thanks for all the legwork. Eventually I will need more than my MaxTraxx, ARB snatch strap and receiver shackle, and my hot pink underwear to flag down some help. :anonymous:

you and Stan with the panties on your truck o_O

on the MaxTrax tip. we had a few scenarios recently where tires were so dug in that they wouldn't crawl out of the mud with a shit ton of winch load. we able to shove a board down into the steep angle and they could crawl out. We tried digging but the tire would just end up in the same situation. Could have tried some firewood. But those espensive boards did the trick. First time I felt I actually needed maxtrax with me, usually they are just making recovery faster...

Yeah, they appear to be pretty impressive pierces of kit. I grabbed them before heading out to Utah a few years ago solo with the wife. It was my first time out there, and even good graded byways can go to shit quickly in a downpour and flash flood in the middle of fuckigin nowhere. Plus there's a lot of sand all over the damn place. Airing down was enough everywhere I went and we never got caught in a downburst or flash flood in a wash. Hell, even a trickle in a wash on a dry day could be a quagmire.

My current approach on such solo trips is be conservative, be prepared to turn around. Leave a way out, and use the shovel/minimal jacking and stacking/traction boards if need be. Panties are only if I need a snatch, so to speak.

Can't wait to get this new truck set up better.

    stuff
Not having a garage sucks. Need more space for stuff. I had to wait more than a week for both kids to fall asleep on my wife so I could sneak it in and hide it in the spare bedroom upstairs :spy:
