I have a 2001 Tacoma with the 3.4 and 185XXX miles on it. Auto trans, TRD, the usual. I was wondering how much putting a small turbo on the 3.4 would reduce the reliability of the motor? I don't know much about these motors or what they are rated for, but I'm considering this to get a little more power out of the motor. Thanks!

Supercharger. Cheaper and doesn't effect reliability at all.

    and my own build thread.

    If you want power -Turbo
    If you want reliability -Supercharger

Auto trans is good for atleast 400hp with a shift kit
5VZ-FE is good for 350hp reliably (before you bend a rod)

You'll need to run atleast 91 octane yada yada yada _insert turbo jargon here_

Go follow that BS thread and check out my own thread. Your questions will be answered in much more detail there by people who have turbo'd tacomas. :D

A little more power... supercharger. Bolt on, use stock pulley with no mods, and run premium gas= done.

That's what i was thinking as well. If not a significant amount of power is desired to add, a turbo is a lot of extra work vs the SC.
