    Hello all,

I am new to the tacoma world. Finally got one!!!!!!

    I have a 2017 double cab. It is 2.7l i-4 cylinder 4*2 automatic transmission.
    159 horsepower.

Considering I will not be towing, racing, or off-roading; do y'all think this will be sufficient for me??????

My needs are to get to and from work,
take the family (4 people total) on weekend trips,
occasionally haul basic stuff like groceries, hardware store items,
help friends move form time to time.
I might even go on unpaved terrain once in a blue moon.

Thanks for any helpful advice. You guys always seem to have great knowledge. =)

Your choice is fine, doesn't sound like you need anything more. By chance though why not V6? More power, same gas mileage.

It met my price range, and also I wasn't really pursuing a hauling truck. I had no preference in cylinders, but I was just thinking about it and was curious what y'all thought. I hear the i-4 is more than capable and super reliable. Thanks for the reply.

Yup, 4 cylinder can definitely hold its own. And for your routine it's more than enough.

hahaha. you don't think that would be silly considering I'm not in a 'power' category?

    I had the same configuration.

Loved it, but the 4 cylinder does feel pretty taxed with stock gears and a small increase in tire size, particularly at altitude. These were P265/75/16s, OEM size was/is P245/75/16.

Plenty of 4 cylinders on this site. Haven't heard of any unhappy 4 cyl owners. Alot of First gen 4 cyl owners as well, all happy campers.

I have noticed a lot of them seem to bea off-road guys and have 5 speed manuals. Does the fact that I have an automatic transmission make any difference other than for off-roading (which i don't do)?

Manuals are a little more agile with that motor than the autos are, but at least when I bought mine, you couldn't get a double cab 2.7 with anything other than the auto.

It was great stock, got 23 MPG average with mine and an all time high of 28. When I lifted it and got tires, dropped to 17 - so even if you don't offroad, if you want better fuel economy with it be mindful with your tire choice.

thank you. good point. For now, i have the stock tires it came with.
I guess when i get to the point where I have to replace them.... I should just stay within the same tire category?

Not gonna lie, idk the science behind it. But it should give you more response and a slight boost in power.

I have it and I did see a big difference in power. Not gonna say it's night and day but it's worth it. I hardly ever hit 3k rpm anymore. The more I drive it the better it feels after the cpu adjusts your fuel ratio your mpg will also improve and not to mention that since you're not reaching 4K and higher rpm you're not beating on your truck as much all the time so it may even effect the durability(not that the 2.7 needs it lol)
