A Sirius problem!!

Hello all this is my fist post on TW. I just got a 2010 access TRD OR and already got in on a group buy! I want to put Sirius into it but do not want to spend HUNDREDS of dollars. Does anyone know if the TOY-SC1 is compatible with the 2010 Tacos? Everyone I ask (the retailers) say it is not. However, I think this is so because it is a discontinued item. Have the radios changed in anyway from 09 to 10? What about possibly doing a group buy for Sat radio parts?

 

You have a 2010 without a Sat button on the radio?

It has the AM/SAT button and the XM antenna hook up. I know that I need an antenna adapter, which is like $60. I want to hook it up through the head unit. Which every place I look tells me I need to spend $185ish for the unit that will display the info on the head unit. The one I am finding is the isimple. However, the TOY-CS1 is a lot cheaper then that.

Just saw your link. That will work but the TOY-SC1 is a lot cheaper and does the same thing.

tss-radio are the ones that told me that the TOY-SC1 won't work. I guess I will have to spend the extra cash. Thanks!

 

I initially went to TSS-Radio Sales (http://www.tss-radio.com) and looked at the TOYSC1/SCC1 system. This is what their tech support folks told me:


We do not recommend the TOYSCC1 for the 2010 model year because of software compatibility. We recommend the VAIS or the iSimple product instead. You can certainly try the TOYSC1/SCC1, but it hasn't been updated in quite some time and it may not yield the same results the SLS2 or the iSimple system would.

In the end, I opted for the Sirius receiver manufactured by Toyota, which I purchased from http://www.toyotapart.com:

Other vendors sell these two parts as well. I went this route in large part because there’s only one piece of equipment, the receiver, to be installed.

If you’ve read any of the install-a-satellite-receiver-in-a-Tacoma blog entries, you know that you must also purchase the SFA12M adapter cable (http://www.discountcarstereo.com/detail.aspx?ID=1154) which allows you to use the factory satellite radio antenna instead of the magnetic antenna included in the receiver kit.

My receiver and fit kit came promptly, but installation instructions were not included. You can find the instructions here:

Oddly, these instructions seem not to include a description of how to affix the receiver in the rear auxiliary box area in the access cab model. But you can find that description in the XM receiver installation instructions here:


As a bonus, these instructions provide info on how to remove the ridiculous subwoofer. But I digress….

In the end, I elected not to hassle with removing all of the trim, seats, boxes, etc. that would allow for mounting in the back. I have read that there is space for mounting behind the passenger side kick panel, but I saw no available space. I chose a spot just forward of and left of the shift lever—mounted in the center console, driver’s side. If you want to get into the console, pull up the center cup holder. You should be able to do this by hand or with a nylon tool. Unscrew the four screws. Unscrew the shift knob. The forward part of the console is separate but connected to the aft portion. I expect that you could detach the front from the back, but I didn’t. Instead I lifted out the carpet from the center console storage box, and unscrewed the two bolts. The whole console will then lift back, up, and out. The inner sides of the console have sound insulation affixed to them. I removed a small piece of the insulation, matched with the size of the receiver. In order to mount the receiver, I flexed the screw tabs on the receiver until they snapped off, the breaks flush with the sides of the receiver. With these tabs gone, the receiver fits perfectly onto the inner surface of console. I affixed it Velcro tape, as I didn’t care for the provided double-sided tape.

Removal of the footrest, scuff plate, and the cowl side trim board (kick panel), as described in the instructions, is straight forward and easy (I used a nylon trim tool). I hooked up the antenna and wire harness, using the power and antenna connectors behind the kick panel, before final installation to make sure everything was working (until you activate your receiver, ‘Station 184’ appears on the screen, and Sirius promo info is broadcast). I then tucked it all away and replaced all of the trim. Routing the wires from behind the kick panel area to up and behind the dash and back down into the console was a minor chore, but it should be ok, and the wires are tied up and out of sight.

Hopefully you will enjoy sirius. My girlfriend and I didn't enjoy it very much. I canceled my membership after about a year. On the music channels they play the same 4 songs OVER AND OVER AND OVER again. Its just like listening to FM radio. See if you can get the a-la-carte version and pay a little less because the full version isn't worth the money IMO.

I guess if you are into howard stern or sports talk then it would be ok.

 

Thanks guys. I do have Sirius I just wanted to be able to use the head unit and not have to install the Sirius radio. I live in the north country so I only get like 3 channels and 2 are comming in from our Canadian friends in French! So, listing to the same 4 songs which I do is alright sometimes. I like the idea about the Toyota kit but they wanted way to much at the dealer. I will check out toyotapart.com and see what I can do. Thanks again!!

 

I've had Sirius for years and it's well worth it! Once in a while I get stuck in a company vehicle without it and it SUCKS!!!

Ive had Sirius for over 6 years and LOVE it and cannot live without it. I just bought a 2010 TRD myself and ordered the the Factory stuff like Opeapea from the same place. Should be in next week, cant wait to get it back.

No I did not get the 3 months free. I have had Sirius for 4 years in my Jeep but I want to use the head unit rather then install the radio in the new truck. Tss-Radio.com has a kit for $229 that you can integrate an Ipod trough the head unit as well as Sirius. Plus the antenna adapter for $60 from myradiostore.com A bit pricy so I may hold off for awhile.

 

I tried the Toy-SC1 with my 2010 PreRunner, spent days with TSS Radio the MFR of the TOY-SC1 researching and trying all kinds of things. In the end, I returned the device to TSS Radio, replaced with an iSimple Media Gateway with Sat. and iPhone cable. Coupled with SharkFin adapter wire, I'm using stock head unit with the stock antenna, using my steering wheel controls to control the iPhone and my SCC1 Tuner installed.

 

Did your jeep happen to be blue, and your new OR is magnetic gray?

Since XM and Sirius joined, can't you get the same thru either subscription? I know i can get nfl and howard stern thru xm now as there is a xm-sirius package now.
