Hid headlight bulbs

Tried the LED's and the Halogen H9's as my Low beam upgrades. H9's were better than the LED's imho. Then installed the Hylux Hid. Which was by far the best of the bunch. Extremely pleased with my Hylux Setup. Others seem to be as well. Plug and play system with Excellent light output with no one flashing me for blinding them.

In a headlight assembly designed specifically for halogen bulbs like the 3rd gen, the most optimal bulb for a given standardized output is going to be the halogen it was designed for. It will have superior beam fullness and coverage. However, where things get tricky is when you have projectors like the 3rd gen and take the output significantly above what halogen is practically capable of by going to high power HID/LED. In either alternative light source scenarios, the optics are wrong, but the alternative sources can generate more light output. Sure you still have cut offs due to the projectors, and you are not blinding anyone but you will also likely have a non-uniform beam pattern unlike halogens the projectors were designed for. So compromises are made, but it may be the case that more light output outweighs the downside of the less consistent/full beam for some drivers. Then you are down to picking your poison, the HID is less optimally aligned with the halogen filament optic location for maximum performance but the omni-directional light provides fuller use of the headlights reflective surfaces. The LED light is very directional and prone to significant hot spots in the beam, and not well utilizing the top of the internal reflector in the projector (since the directional LEDs are pointing to the sides). When putting LEDs into a halogen reflector (yes I know we are talking projectors) the LED directional effect is easily observable just by looking at the headlight assembly turned on and seeing the top of the reflector is darker when the top of the non-LED is fully lit.

In your fogs you should stay with halogens unless switching out the entire assembly like TRS morimoto fog housings. You say you have never had an issue, but it isn't the people that do this that have the issue, it is everyone else on the road ahead of them. This thread already cited numerous times explains why:

Good explanation for the OP, hopefully it helps him decide which way he wants to go. As for my fogs, I don't drive on the road with these on and honestly their not even that good compared to the stock bulbs. Like I said the scatter is pretty bad and makes the fogs almost useless. I've just been testing different bulbs to see the difference ( these LED's just happen to be the latest one I'm testing) but I'm planning to switch them out for a Rigid kit.

 

Was it a tight fit getting the headlight opt7 properly installed? I ordered from xenon Depot their set and although it's a quality product there was zero chance of getting them to fit. The frame is like a inch behind base of bulbs.

 

Installing both of these were a breeze. No fitment issues at all. Simply just taking the bulb out and switching them and putting them back in. About a 10 minutes or less job for low beams. Fogs take a while cause I went underneath the liner to get to them, but less then 30 minutes for them.

Are you ordering the Lows or the Fogs? Or both? The fogs have a different bulb for your trim. Cause my SR5 couldn't use the H11 on the fogs. So for your lows/fogs get both H11s. If you have a SR5 you need H11 Lows and H16 fogs.

 

I just put the low beams and fogs in yesterday after I got home from work. I honestly think it took me 10 minutes, including zip tying the excess wire and stepping back and looking at each light after I put it in. I've owned around 12 vehicles now, this was hands down the easiest headlight install I've ever had. Love the look, and happy with the spread.
